This lovely Kiddish cup from Spode’s Judaica line is an elegant and tasteful addition to traditional Sabbath celebrations. Spode creates the cup from fine white earthenware with transfer-technique blue glazing and bases the pattern on historic Jewish manuscripts. The piece features ornate decoration inside and out, sculptural fluting on the thick stem, and a gently turned lip on the bowl. The Star of David is featured centrally amid flowers, scrollwork, and Hebrew lettering that translates as "Who creates the fruit of the vine." Made in England, the cup is safe in the dishwasher and the microwave. It stands 6 inches high and measures 4-3/4 inches in diameter at the rim. --Emily Bedard

The NEW Spode Judaica Kiddish Cup is a sophisticated Judaica wine cup, used every Sabbath when a prayer, the Kiddish, is said over the wine to sanctify the Sabbath. The Kiddish Cup is also used during holiday and festival meals like the Passover Seder and Rosh Hashanah. The literal translation of the Hebrew words is "who creates the fruit of the vine." The design on the Spode Judaica Kiddish Cup is based on historic Judaic manuscripts from the 1880's, influenced by early ceramic tile motifs, and features the traditional Judaic colors of blue and white. The dominant motif consists of stylized flowers and vines, interwoven amongst the straight-edged Star of David.

This cup is absolutely beautiful in the detailing, design, and shape. HOWEVER! The description says the cup is made in England. Not so. On the UPC, it says "MADE IN CHINA." I contacted Amazon, who sent me another one. Again, "MADE IN CHINA." When contacted again, they offered to give me a full refund if I wanted to return the cup, or a discount on the china cup. The cup is so beautiful that for the price I am willing to sacrifice the English quality and see how this cup measures up. If you're thinking about buying this cup, I would recommend it, but be warned, you're probably going to get one from China. Amazon's customer service was great during the process. They answered my emails within 12 hours and between having the first cup shipped, to the final resolution, it probably took a few days.

We bought the Spode pieces to use for Passover last Spring. It is beautiful as all of these Spode Judaica pieces are. See my review on the Spode Matzoh Plate. I did not find all the pieces at Amazon.
