A lovely serving piece for challah, this Judaica tray from Spode features an elegant pattern inspired by historic Jewish manuscripts. Set against a white background, the transfer-technique blue glazing combines intricate flowers and vines with the clean geometry of the Star of David. A phrase in Hebrew script translates as "In honor of the holy Sabbath." Crafted from fine earthenware in England, the piece is markedly light in the hand but safe in the microwave and dishwasher. The NEW Spode Judaica Challah Tray is a beautiful serving piece that is used to hold the loaf of challah, a sweet braided bread that signifies the gift of food. The English translation of the Hebrew on the tray is in honor of the holy Sabbath. The design on the Spode Judaica Challah Tray is based on historic Judaic manuscripts from the 1880's, influenced by early ceramic tile motifs, and features the traditional Judaic colors of blue and white. The dominant motif consists of stylized flowers and vines, interwoven amongst the straight-edged Star of David.

Whereas spode might be collectible, the size of this dish is rather useless since most challahs are larger than this particular plate. I received this as a gift and am returning it for something more useful.
