I love the shape of this set. But this product is made in Malaysia, not England. I don't recall that being made clear in the product description. More importantly, the quality wasn't what I had expected, so I returned it. Some of the green paint trim was applied inconsistently and one Christmas tree image was ever so slightly off center on the pitcher. The price was reasonable -- but not if you're expecting only first quality Christmas Tree Spode made in England. If you're simply seeking a Christmas China pattern and not a family heirloom, then you might be comfortable with this product. The quality wasn't unacceptable; it just wasn't top quality in my mind.

Please note that I have found a quality problem (only worse) with 3 other Spode Christmas tree plate/mug boxed sets and 1 bowl boxed set that I bought on line from another non-amazon vendor at very affordable prices. In that case, the plates said England. The mugs were made in Malaysia. The plates were clearly seconds, although they weren't marketed as such (e.g., there were spots without glaze on the backs of all plates/bowls and there was inconsistent color on the front of one plate and a crack around the foot of another).

So beware of good deals on boxed sets of china in the Spode Christmas pattern. Much of this product is no longer being made in England. And what's being made in England isn't necessarily top quality, especially if it's offered at a good price. Spode really needs to watch that it's reputation doesn't suffer. If it wants to sell inferior products at lower prices, it must warn customers that they're getting seconds or lesser quality items.

I was told that buying Spode Christmas tree pieces that are sold individually SHOULD yield a better quality product, but it's more costly.

My daughter was absolutely thrilled to receive this very special addition to her Christmas dishes. We were especially pleased when we saw the same items at a local business for twice the price we paid. We are very satisfied with our purchase

Well we bought it anyway at a very reasonable price that was offered by one of the amazon vendors over Christmas. it is beautiful, excellent first quality (though it is made in malaysia). we're very picky about china and it has no noticeable imperfections in the design or in the pottery itself. It pours beautifully and looks great. And while it may not be someone else's heirloom, it will be ours. Just shop around.
