Just A Brat,
By Tangerine (IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Spoiled Rotten (Paperback)
Chandria is a diva at heart, she is beautiful, smart, and high maintenance. Sporting the latest fashions and having money at her fingertips with the support of her big brother Jyson. He makes it his business to let his lil sis want for nothing. Chandria is the envy of many and she will not have it any other way. On top of being the baddest chick at Mansfield Senior High, she fall head over heels for Dariel Daniels, who've she had a crush on since she was six. Whatever Chandria wants, she makes it her business to get. She is hit in the face with reality when tragedy strikes and everything seems to be going down hill thereafter. Will Chandria be able to uphold her superstar status through the turmoil?
I commend Brandi Johnson for a well written first novel. The characters were definitely presented to the reader very well. I truly love Chandria and Jyson characters, some of the choices that they made I didn't agree with but everybody is not perfect and have to learn from there mistakes. There were some funny parts that made me laugh out loud but there were some parts that made me teary eyed that I didn't want to happen. I didn't want this book to end but of course it has. All 436 pages were read in 2 days. This book can be someone's true to life story. Ms. Johnson is well on her way in the literary arena.

Spoiled Rotten is rocking with the best,

In this novel we are introduce to Trouble and Jayson. They are brother and sister that grew up in home filled with no love because of there mother being a crack head and their father up and leaving them to be with another woman. So what are they to do but cling to each other for the love and support that they need to over come all the obstacle of being poor. Tired of living the way they do Jayson becomes the man of the house and sets out to make money anyway possible(selling drugs). He becomes one of the biggest drug dealer just so that his sister would never have to go with out. He gave her any and everything that she want.
Trouble on the other hand is loving the way that her brother is taking care of her. But one thing that she wants she cant have because Dariel is already taken by some other chick that she can not stand. But little does she know what she wants she always gets because she is not the only one that wants something. Dariel wants her too. But Trouble is soon faced with harsh reality as everything in her life goes wrong. Follow Trouble and Jayson as they take you on a rollcoster ride into love, betrayal, baby mama drama and family issues. I must say that Brandi did a excellent job at keeping my attention. She even had me crying while reading this book. So if you cry then you know this must be a hell of a novel. Cant wait to read what she has coming up next.

This book left a bad taste in my mouth!,
By Rhonda Thomas "A lover of Urban Romance Fiction" (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Spoiled Rotten (Paperback)
This book was all over the place! It just didn't flow between the chapters very well. At times, I felt like the story just didn't come full circle. For a minute I thought that the story was headed in one direction and then it took another turn. I guess what messed me up was when Trouble started her revenge with Woo! That was so out of character for her and the character that this book had portrayed her to be. Towards the end of the book, I just couldn't get wit that twisted storyline especially after what happened between Woo and Jyson. I have to say that this book kept my attention until the end; however, there were to many undeveloped stories for me. i.e.. Carla said she was going to start some drama between Trouble and Dariel and that never happened. It appeared that there may be some kinda of family relations between Woo and Jyson? Maybe? Nothing was said or developed. I don't know, but, this book started out with potential and just didn't have a great climax for me.

Could Have Been Written Better [...],
By
This review is from: Spoiled Rotten (Urban Renaissance) (Paperback)
I saw the book and bought it only because my favorite video vixen turned rapper is on it. Angel Lola Luv aka Lola Monroe. So anyway, I read the book and didn't completely hate it, but I did at the same time.
I don't like reading plain African American urban books because they're so stereotypical of what white America thinks black America is like (even though a black person writes them). And although this is the reality is some places, and I know this reality because it's a lot like where I grew up, I'm just not interested in reading about it every single time I pick up an AA urban fiction book. I hate that mess. **** MAJOR SPOILERS **** MAJOR SPOILERS **** Basically, we've got this high school girl called Trouble (Candria) who digs Dariel. He has a stalkerish, pregnant, ex girlfriend named Jameelah and she has a wonderful older, drug selling, brother who's been raising her for years. Drama, drama, drama. The pregnant ex keeps hating on Trouble and tries to take Dariel. The brother gets killed, Trouble has sex with the brother, then has him killed. In the end, shes pregnant by her brothers killer and Dariel accepts the baby, now feeling that she understands his situation with the ex girlfriend/mother of his child, that he hates. I think that if the book had been written better that I would have liked it. But there was no UMPH to the book. The imagery was lackluster as well as the wording and descriptions. So yea, the book would have been good had it been written better.

It's Hard Being A Princess,

This review is from: Spoiled Rotten (Paperback)
Candria, known to the world as Trouble, basically has been abandoned by both her mother and father. The one person who cares about her is her older brother, Jyson. He spoils her by giving her the best of everything. He even drops out of high school to make sure she never needs anything. SPOILED ROTTEN by Brandi Johnson is Trouble's story of always feeling she must have the best of everything, yet feeling needy because of the lack of a mother's guidance and love. She falls in love with her best friend's cousin, Dariel. As their relationship continues to build, an ex-girlfriend of Dariel's shows up, tossing a wrench into the relationship. Will Dariel's and Trouble's love be able to survive the stress?
Eventually, crime enters the scene. Jyson's success has many people jealous and they want his money. They are also after Big Mike, Jyson's friend who calls himself Jyson's big brother. Jyson has many women in his life and one of them is out to get him and Big Mike. Which one is it? Will they find out before they lose everything they have? Brandi Johnson has written an interesting story of life in the ghetto from the point of view of a young girl who has everything material she could want. Her only need is for love and for that she is desperate. Can she find true love before it is too late for her? It was definitely an interesting book. Spoiled Rotten to the Core!,

This review is from: Spoiled Rotten (Paperback)
Chandria "Trouble" Lewis was spoiled from birth by her brother Jyson. He gave her any and everything that her heart desired. This story takes us through both of their childhood years. Trouble finds herself in love with her high school sweetheart and soul mate Dariel Daniels. Trouble and Dariel go through a roller coaster ride filled with mixed emotions, lies, cheating and just plain mayhem. But in the end, love does prevail! Their relationship is tested to see if it can stand strong. But the worst tragedy strikes and Trouble finds herself in the midst of a evil wicked plan and she won't stop until her mission is completed!
I enjoyed this novel by newcomer Brandi Johnson and I look forward to her sophomore novel.! Kudos! ****4.0 stars****

The main character was a mess! Sure she was spoiled but she thought she walked above everyone! Then what she did at the end to everyone at that party was so uncalled for...
