5.0 out of 5 stars Let there be light... September 20, 2011

So I needed a light for my bike so I could commute home in the later hours now that its getting dark earlier, I had recommendations from friends and did some reading up on reviews of many other lights. The one thing that was consistent was, go for 1000 lumens lights what every you do. My search was turning up many well rated 1k bike lights, but out of the blue I found a link to this SG-1000 ligh via amazon. I tried to dig up more info on this company and any other possible reviews for this light and there wasn't much. I did find a small thread with posts from SpokeG support, and a video on youtube. Figuring that I could spend $250-$400 for some other bike lights, or take a chance on and SG-1000 for $109??? I couldn't resist, only 1 Amazon review... hmmm what is there to loose, I'm in!
I've only had it for a few days, but let me tell you this light is friggen bright! I went for a quick night ride the other night and the light was casting a halo from curb to curb on either side of the street, and I was beeming bright light into the living room window at the house at the end of the street. Half power on the second click was about the brightness that I thought I'd get from this light (at 6hrs at this mode, where are your going to ride at night for 6 hours???), the 3rd quarter power mode, eh.. I'd skip, whats the use unless your trying to be stealthy. The 4th click blink mode... Ummm.. If you don't end up having seizures, other folks in the oncoming direction might, you might want to reserve that mode in cases that you really need to alert folks that you're on the road, or possibly at a dance club somewhere and you want to add to the atmosphere.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very bright, but battery is blah January 13, 2012

The light is very bright and casts quite a large beam. There is no comparison between the brightness on this and my 250 lumen cygolite milion, except when it comes to the battery. The spoke grenade light is advertised to last for 3 hrs on 100% brightness, assuming there is a full battery charge. After a handful of rides with this light, the battery dies at just under 2 hours. If I had known this before my purchase, I most likely would have looked elsewhere.

1.0 out of 5 stars This product is repackaged and marked up 80% March 2, 2012

I hate to leave a 1 star review, but this company deserves it because they are swindling customers.

You can find this exact same unit for sale under different brands for 40% less than the Spoke Grenade branded light and those products also come with a headlamp mount, so you can attach it to your helmet.

Do not buy this over priced repackaged light.

As far as the light itself, the quality is good. It's super bright when set on high and the lower intensity settings are adequate for night riding on mountain bike trails.

However, the battery doesn't last as long as advertised.

UPDATE: Added link to exact same light, but sold by ATC
ATC CREE XML T6 LED 1000 Lumen Bike Light / Bike Bicycle Light HeadLight headLamp with improved battery and charger

UPDATE 7/16/2012: It looks like the ATC light has changed to a different housing design and is no longer the same exact light that Spoke Grenade sells. It definitely used to be the same light as proven by the comments to my review from people who bought the cheaper light, so my review will stay.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as long as reported December 24, 2011

This light is very bright; however, after a full charge only lasted 2 hours versus the advertised 3. It also completely just goes out at the two hour point without any pre-warning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Game Changer October 27, 2011

It was a big jump for me to spend this kind of money on lighting for my bike. To this point, I had always had cat eyes, and cat eye equivalents that I thought kept me covered for night, or dawn/dusk rides. I assumed that the purpose of the light was to keep other vehicles from hitting you and that high performance lighting that actually made riding safer at speed was outside of what I was willing to spend.
From what I have gathered from others reviews of other systems the reflector lens and the money spend to insure you have a wide, and long throw of light is what ultimately costs more money in the $3-400. This beam is plenty wide for road biking, the throw is incredible and more than sufficient for everyday riding. For mountain biking, I think you would probably want a bar and helmet mount due to a relatively focused beam that would not be conducive to tight turns. (For the price you can buy 2)
Multi Modes are not a new thing, but are as always very useful if employed properly:
Flash Mode- amazing for dusk or dawn where there is enough light to see the road. Opposing traffic actually slowed down as I approached. Cross traffic and right turners didn't cross or turn until I had passed. Road signs for hundreds of yards flashed, and people walking would turn around as I approached.
High- Clearly illuminates the road and signage for pretty much any petal powered speed. (I was going up to 35mph downhill with plenty of light to show bumps and potholes. Other riders I overtook kept looking over their shoulders as they thought they were being overtaken by a car or moto.
Medium- What's that?
Off- Not too exciting.
Durability: If you don't see me repost about how it fell apart after a dozen uses, or how the battery won't hold a charge the thing is a tank.
