The History of Walter T. Foster

More than 80 years ago, Mr. Walter T. Foster proved you can accomplish anything you can dream! Having painted signs, sold hog medicine, performed in a stage act -- and invented the postage-stamp vending machine -- Mr. Foster turned to publishing. The "how to" art books he wrote, illustrated, printed, bound, packaged, and shipped on his own soon grew in popularity, and Mr. Foster became well known for proving that anyone can learn to draw. Today the Walter Foster Publishing company carries on the tradition, developing books and kits that encourage creativity and spark imaginations.

I use this cartooning book with my cartooning students. It offers simple two dimensional drawings which are easy to draw in addition to more complex three dimensional drawings. Finally, it shows kids how to soup up characters to give them new personalities. I have gone through A LOT of how to draw cartoon books, and this is definitely at the top of my list when I suggest books to parents.

2.0 out of 5 stars not the best, March 31, 2009
This review is from: SpongeBob: 5 Splashy Styles (Nick How To Draw) (Paperback)
This could've had easier pictures to draw. Instead of regular SB it has him at funny angles running. Not so easy for beginner artists who just want to draw SB standing. The other 4 characters aren't very easy to draw either. I thought it would have them doing things to draw from the show but it was just dumb poses in different clothes. One of the other how-to draw SB books looks better than this one. The directions aren't very good either.

It does have a few picture/poses that are easy to draw and my kids (& husband) aren't tired of them yet.
