5.0 out of 5 stars Season 2 is finally here!
Spongebob has to be the funniest cartoon ever created. Last year when the complete 1st season came out, I got it right away and watched it all the time. Then I waited for the 2nd season to come out and finally it's here. 5.0 out of 5 stars "If Nautical Nonsense Be Something You Wish. . .", August 19, 2004
By
This review is from: SpongeBob SquarePants - The Complete 2nd Season (DVD)
Fans of this program already know how fun and witty it is for both kids and adults. Here's what we have to look forward to when this second season DVD finally comes out:

1. Something Smells / Bossy Boots: SpongeBob gets bad breath from his sundae made of ketchup and onions. Pearl gives the Krusty Krab--I mean, the Kuddly Krab--a makeover.
2. Your Shoe's Untied / Squid's Day Off: SpongeBob forgets how to tie his shoes. Squidward is left in charge of the Krusty Krab and decides to leave early only to keep returning for fear of what SpongeBob might do. In this episode, we see Squidward actually swimming in a bathtub, which is a very funny sight!
3. Big Pink Loser / Bubble Buddy: Patrick wants a trophy and decides to imitate award magnet SpongeBob. SpongeBob makes a new friend that the rest of the town does not appreciate.
4. Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III / Squirrel Jokes: SpongeBob and Patrick foolishly unleash the evil ManRay. SpongeBob discovers that the only way to get laughs during his comedy act is to make fun of Sandy (this one is one of my favorites).
5. Christmas Who?: Patchy the Pirate hosts a half hour special where SpongeBob brings Christmas to Bikini Bottom.
6. Dying for Pie / Imitation Krabs: Squidward thinks he's given SpongeBob a fatal pie, and stays with him during his "last hours." Plankton masquerades as Mr. Krabs.
7. Wormy / Patty Hype: SpongeBob and Patrick take care of Sandy's pets and freak out when her worm is eaten by an evil butterfly-looking thing. SpongeBob markets Pretty Patties.
8. Survival of the Idiots / Dumped: Sandy is hibernating, but that doesn't stop SpongeBob and Patrick from visiting. Gary the Snail finds a new best buddy in Patrick, much to the chagrin of SpongeBob.
9. Grandma's Kisses / Squidville: SpongeBob is teased for kissing his grandmother. Squidward finds a neighborhood more accommodating to his lifestyle.
10. No Free Rides / I'm Your Biggest Fanatic: Mrs. Puff decides to pass SpongeBob no matter what. SpongeBob hangs out with an expert Jellyfisher.
11. You Wish ("Shanghaied") / Gary Takes a Bath: SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward get three wishes on the flying Dutchman's ship. Someone ends up taking a bath...and it isn't Gary.
12. Pressure / The Smoking Peanut: The gang starts up the old "whose better? land creatures or sea creatures?" debate. Clamu is going through emotional distress.
13. Pre-Hibernation Week / Life of Crime: Sandy has only one week to burn carbs before hibernating-can SpongeBob survive that long? SpongeBob and Patrick become fugitives after stealing a balloon.
14. The Secret Box / Band Geeks: Patrick has a secret box. Squidward starts up a marching band to show up rival Squilliam.
15. Sailor Mouth / Artist Unknown: My all-time favorite! SpongeBob and Patrick learn some new words. The greatest artist in his own mind, Squidward, is bettered by his pupil, SpongeBob.
16. Jellyfish Hunters / Fry Cook Games: SpongeBob uses jellyfish jelly on his krabby patty which starts a new craze and is bad news for the jellyfish. Just in time for the Olympics, well it would be if this DVD would come out sooner! SpongeBob and Patrick compete in the fry cook games.
17. The Bully / Just One Bite: SpongeBob encounters a new classmate who wants to kick his butt. Another favorite of mine: Krabby patty-hating Squidward discovers what he has been missing in life.
18. Sandy, SpongeBob and the Worm / Squid on Strike: An Alaskan Bullworm invades Bikini Bottom. Squid takes on Mr. Krab's "house of servitude."
19. Procrastination / I'm With Stupid: SpongeBob procrastinates on writing a paper. SpongeBob pretends to be a moron to make Patrick look smart in front of his parents.

Considering how long it is taking to get this season out on DVD, there should be lots of extras as in the First Season set.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good, some bad, November 1, 2004

The good--the packaging was much more creative that Season 1, Season 2 is my favorite season, and the menu is easier to use.

The bad--where are the multiple endings for "Shanghaied/Make A Wish"? The audio commentary is a complete waste, filled mostly with comments like "uh, this is my favorite part....". The added features, other than "Around the World with Spongebob" are dull.

I know the team was probably busy working on the movie, but couldn't they have devoted a bit more time to this compilation?

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Season...Not Totally Complete However., November 9, 2004
By
KiWiSouP "kiwisoup" (Minneapolis, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SpongeBob SquarePants - The Complete 2nd Season (DVD)
This box set has some improvements over the last seasons release, but also some disadvantages. The Box is different...it now has a sleeve that it slides out of that is kind of awkward and is wierd when you try to put the 2 seasons next to each other...not to mention i already ripped and dented it because it's so thin. The menu and navigation is much better in this version.

I'm suprised by the lack of extras. I expected trailers or information about the new movie, but there weren't even previews on here. the commentaries aren't with the cast this time around, it is with the animators. They must have been really busy with the movie...at least I got a free ticket out of it which is included.

This season has all the best episodes though like: Sailor Mouth, Something Smells, Frankendoodle, Patty Hype, Graveyard Shift, and more...plus there are special double-length episodes like Christmas Who? and You Wish/Shanghaied, although I'm not very fond of Patchy the Pirate.

A couple gripes though aside from the lack of bonus features...first off the episode "shangheid!" when it was aired on TV, viewers called in to vote for who they wanted to make the final wish: Spongebob, Squidward, or Patrick. On one of the single DVD releases they have all 3 of the possible endings, but they didn't include them here. Worse than this is the fact that the live action segments where Patchy the Pirate announces the winner have been poorly dubbed over to try to make it look like a fan letter instead, although he never reads what it says, lol.

Also, they have swapped some of the episodes in this set with ones from the third season. Not sure why exactly they did this.

More SpongeBob SquarePants! Hooray! I got this for Christmas and it is my favorite season. These episodes are well-written and beautifully animated. The packaging is great, too, with original artwork on a cardboard slipcase.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOX! BUY IT!!!, November 5, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: SpongeBob SquarePants - The Complete 2nd Season (DVD)
I am a huge fan of Spongebob! I was so happy when I bought this! Let me just skip to my review:

Packaging: The DVDs inside of this set are not the slim ones. Each case has a picture of Spongebob or another character on the front. There is also a picture of all the characters in the season inside SB's house. On the back there is a listing of all the episodes in the season, which isn't attached to the box.

Episodes: They are all great! My favorites are:
Imitation Krabs
Frankendoodle
Welcome To The Chum Bucket
Squid's Day Off
Procrastination
Dying For Pie
Sandy, Spongebob, And The Worm
Pressure

And many more! Buy this. And if you don't, YOUR LIFE WILL BE FILLED WITH MISERY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Season Ever!, November 22, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: SpongeBob SquarePants - The Complete 2nd Season (DVD)
The first Season of SpongeBob was great and all but the second season was where the show really shined. The characters personalities stayed pretty quirky and hilarious, but the humor made shifted gears into verbal comedy with loads of jokes that a normal little kid would never understand! but to please there originally intended younger audience there were many slapstick scenes in the many episodes in here. My one problem with this season though is how it changed from handdrawn animation into computer created episodes. it just wasn't the same. on another note this season featured The Christmas Episode and a few others with Patchy and Potty! and finally this season featured some pretty sweet special features like Around The World with SpongeBob SquarePants and not only were the DVD Menus creatively set up like SpongeBob's Pineapple but also the Box Set itself was!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great viewing for kids and adults, September 5, 2005
This review is from: SpongeBob SquarePants - The Complete 2nd Season (DVD)
My stepdaughter introduced me to this series, and I have to say not since Rocky and Bullwinkle have I seen a cartoon that both kids and adults can greatly enjoy and find humorous on their respective levels. All of the seasons of Spongebob are great, but in season two the series really hits its stride. My favorites include "Survival of the Idiots" in which Patrick and Spongebob get trapped in Sandy's treedome during her hibernation. The creator of this show has obviously befriended a Texan or two. Anyone who has owned or been owned by a cat will enjoy "Dumped" and "Gary Takes a Bath", both of which deal with Spongebob and Gary, his pet Snail. "Grandma's Kisses" has some of the most memorable quotes in which Patrick assures Spongebob that being a man consists of doing three things:
Patrick: Allow me to demonstrate. First, puff out your chest.
[SpongeBob puffs out his chest]
Patrick: Now say, "tax exemption."
SpongeBob: Tax exemption.
Patrick: Now you must develop a taste for free-form jazz.
In "Squidville" well-deserved fun is poked at the dull uniformity of planned communities and homeowners associations...Anyone who lives in the DC area knows EXACTLY what I am talking about! Another classic is "Bubble Buddy", in which Spongebob has an imaginary friend who has been causing problems around Bikini Bottom all day. In Squidward's case his tragedy is that Bubble Buddy "forced him to provide excellent customer service". Anybody out there who has worked for a living will recognize Squidward as the fellow employee who wants to do the required minimum because he believes he is somehow destined for greater things.
In short, if you want something that both you and the kids can watch and truly enjoy together, you can't do any better than Spongebob.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spongebob At It's Best!, September 24, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: SpongeBob SquarePants - The Complete 2nd Season (DVD)
The second season of Spongebob Squarepants was the best season of Spongebob. Season 1's early episodes were very boring, which threw off the 1st Season until 'Jellyfishing/Plankton', and the 3rd Season, which without this flaw could have been better than Season 2, was entouraged by a hodge-podge of disapointing 'Patchy The Pirate' Episodes. But in the 2nd Season featured no boring episodes, and not as many Patchy Episodes (and the Patchy Episodes in Season 2 are actually not bad). All of the episodes are at least pretty good, and the majority are great. The best episodes from this season, however include 'Fry Cook Games', 'Band Geeks', Spongebob, Sandy, and the Worm', 'The Smoking Peanut', 'Wormy', 'Patty Hype', 'Squidville', and many others far too numerous to name. We can only hope that the upcoming 4th Season (which they officially announced is coming) will follow in the footsteps of Season 2 and not have boring episodes, or too many Patchy Episodes, but for now. Buy this disk now. A must have for any die-hard Spongebob fan. The Upcoming 3rd Season Box is another 5 star, and the 1st Season disk is great EXCEPT for the first few episodes. But this is the best, Spongebob in it's golden age. Enjoy!
