4.0 out of 5 stars Fun for Goofy Goobers of all ages!
I am a closet SpongeBob fan (and probably not the only one), due to my kids TV and movie watching habits. I've seen the movie 3 times, heard the soundtrack once and decided I had to have it (for the kids of course). My favorite cut is SB himself singing "Best Day Ever." This is without a doubt the cutest, happiest, and most Beach Boys-esque song ever recorded (hats off...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent I suppose.
I can say one thing you will probably get exactly what you are expecting when you order this. The whole album is pretty perdictable, but it has some funny and decent songs. Most Spongebob fans will enjoy it.

This is without a doubt the cutest, happiest, and most Beach Boys-esque song ever recorded (hats off the the brilliant production team who obviously spent many hours listening to Pet Sounds). Many of the other cuts are quite good, including the Wilco and Electrocute songs. A couple of exceptions: Patrick the Starfish cannot sing a note, and I defy anyone over 30 to listen to this for longer than 1 minute. The Motorhead song also, well, sucks (fortunately I can hit FF faster than my kids noticed I skipped 'em). If you want a fun, upbeat, catchy CD to listen to with your kids in the car this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you ready kids?!, November 12, 2004
By
This review is from: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music from the Movie and More... (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is SO much fun! Oh, I can't wait for the movie on November 19. Let's start with the first track, 'SpongeBob SquarePants Theme' by Avril Lavigne. It's actually pretty good. Has a modern touch to the Hawaiian-sounding TV theme.

Track No. 2, 'SpongeBob and Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy'. This is a great song. Very laid back. Makes you kinda wanna sway to the music (hehehe... like seaweed in the ocean). And I love the title. The Flaming Lips are pretty good.

Track No. 3, 'Just a Kid', by Wilco. Great guitar intro. It fits right in with the rest of the songs.

Track No. 4, 'The Goofy Goober Song'. OH MY GOD! This song is so infectious. And very simple to learn. "I'm a Goofy Goober Yeah You're a Goofy Goober Yeah We're all Goofy Goober's Yeah Goofy Goofy Goober Goober Yeah!" This has become my favorite track on the entire CD.

Track No. 5, 'Prince Paul's Bubble Party', by Prince Paul, The Waikikis, & Wordsworth. A great little rap song which is just an overview of the episode "Bubblestand", with actual sound clips. Great fun!

Track No. 6, 'Bikini Bottom' by Electrocute. Great song with a great sound. Amazingly fun to dance and sing to.

Track No.'s 7-14, 'The Best Day Ever', 'They'll Soon Discover', 'Ocean Man', 'Under My Rock', 'Now That We're Men', 'Goofy Goober Rock', 'You Better Swim', and 'The Jellyfish Song by the Jellyfish Band'. There were too many tracks to review individually, so I lumped 7-14 into one review. These songs sound great and are really fun to dance to.

Track No. 15, 'SpongeBob SquarePants Theme(Movie Version)'. LOL! This is great. It's sung by The Pirates and sounds orchestral, which it is, since the music is performed by an orchestra. But, it's funny.

I reccommend this album to everyone. I hesitated buying this this past Wednesday, but today, I was out again and couldn't resist! So I bought the CD and am still listening to it. Enjoy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album for a great movie, November 28, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music from the Movie and More... (Audio CD)
The person below obviously doesn't know anything about good music. Some very good bands were selected for this album. Allow me to show you...*Ahem* MY REVIEW

Track 1: Spongebob Squarepants Theme (Avril Lavigne) - I don't like Avril Lavigne, but this version of the theme song is OK. Could be better but her voice kind of ruins it. 2/5

Track 2: Spongebob and Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy (The Flaming Lips) - A very nice, happy sounding peaceful song. This is one of the best on the whole album. I love the way it's sung. The music video is also good. 5/5

Track 3: Just a Kid (Wilco) - A REALLY catchy song. I like the part where the weird kids come in singing "Na na na na na na na na na!" This is fun to listen to. 4/5

Track 4: The Goofy Goober Song (Mike Simpson) - Just like what Mr. Tex said, this is my favorite on the album and is irresistibly catchy. I really like the drum & bass parts, and I LOVE the demented little children in the background going "Blah blah blah blah blah blah". This is hilarious. 6/5

Track 5: Prince Paul's Bubble Party (The Waikikis, Prince Paul & Wordsworth) - I don't really like rap music, but this track is somewhat decent. Most of it is samples from the Bubble Stand episode of Spongebob Squarepants. 3/5

Track 6: Bikini Bottom (Electrocute) - I really don't like this one. It's too poppy and happy and annoying. The only thing that saves this from getting 0 is the fact that I like the keyboard parts. 1/5

Track 7: The Best Day Ever (SpongeBob) - A fun bouncy song with a mix of instruments. Sounds kind of like The Beach Boys. The only thing I really don't like about is SpongeBob's voice. 4/5

Track 8: They'll Soon Discover (The Shins) - A really good track, even if I can't understand what the heck the guy is saying. Very good rhythm. 5/5

Track 9: Ocean Man (Ween) - Really really catchy. The ukulele sounds very nice against the guitar and the demented vocal. And the guitar solo is nice. Much better then the Loop de Loop song the band did for You're Shoe's Untied. 5/5

Track 10: Under my Rock (Patrick) - There's just something about this song I really like, but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the nice keyboard part, harmonica, or the goofy lyrics. It's good. 5/5

Track 11: Now That We're Men (Spongebob, Patrick, & The Monsters) - A good song, but it's ruined on here! It's really all about the visual humor of the scene where Spongebob and Patrick sing this song in the movie. Plus, now the knee slapping part doesn't make any sense! 3/5

Track 12: Goofy Goober Rock (Tom Rothrock with Jim Wise) - This is one of the better-known pieces on the album. It's good but I like Mike Simpson's version better. The way they use this song in the movie is hilarious! 4/5

Track 13: You Better Swim (Motorhead) - This is my least favorite on the album. I dunno. I guess I just don't like this kind of music. The guy's voice irritates me and the guitar riff is really boring. 0/5

Track 14: The Jellyfish Song by The Jellyfish Band (Plus-Tech Squeezebox Featuring SpongeBob) - A catchy, fast, mostly instrumental keyboard number. I kind of wish it was longer. 4/5

Track 15: Spongebob Squarepants Theme (Movie Version) (The Pirates) - Pretty much the opposite of Avril Lavigne's version of the theme. Kind of relaxing. A very good way to wrap up this album. 5/5

In a nutshell: A good soundtrack for the movie. Although it could have been better at parts, it's pretty solid and nice to listen to. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Um, Can We Say Awesome?, October 12, 2009
This review is from: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music from the Movie and More... (Audio CD)
I got this for Christmas a few years back, and I must admit that when I saw Spongebob's sunny visage poking through the wrapping my first thought was, "What am I, five?" Fortunately, I gave it a listen before shoving it, case and all, through my industrial-sized shredder.

The first track is Avril Lavigne. Not necessarily an auspicious start, but I stuck with it. Thank goodness, because the next track is the Flaming Lips, SpongeBob & Patrick Confront The Psychic Wall Of Energy, and it totally rules. Duuude. Probably my favorite track. From there we've got Wilco, the Shins, Ween, and Motorhead and I'm listening like, what? Are you kidding? This is awesome!

The only weak spot, I felt, was the solo Patrick song, Under My Rock. Just wasn't feelin' it.

Anyway, the average adult probably won't look at this and think, "Gee, this looks like a good buy...", but you really should. Much fun is to be had.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little over-the-top? You bet!, October 28, 2008
This review is from: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music from the Movie and More... (Audio CD)
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? If you have a young one in your home (or one who is young-at-heart!) then you know the answer to that question! And if you saw the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, then you have heard this music. Some of it comes from within the movie - the pirates singing the Spongebob theme, or Spongebob and Patrick singing Now That We're Men, and Goofy Goober Rock from the movie's climax - but the rest you will recognize from the closing credits. But, while you only heard pieces of them from the movie, you can now listen to all of them.

Overall, I found this to be a wonderful CD. Among my favorites are Bikini Bottom, The Jellyfish Song, and The Goofy Goober Song, but I must admit that I loved them all. Are these songs a little over-the-top? You bet! My four-year-old loves them, and I am delighted at the way we can both enjoy this CD. What a hoot!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Just Songs About Spongebob And Patrick, September 19, 2005
By
Robin Goodfellow (Land of the Fairies) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music from the Movie and More... (Audio CD)
When I say that, I mean that about EVERY single song on this soundtrack is a different "story" about Spongebob in the bands' own ways. That's not necessarily a bad thing at all. The movie was a bit better. My favorite song is by the Flaming Lips, probably because of the way the song goes and sounds. I guess the entire cd is cool to listen to, and I am very fond of the Flaming Lips song. I really need to find one of their own albums....Most of the other songs also have Spongebob and Patrick singing. I'd prefer ones with the bands, {only they don't sing in a much different catagory, just a little more mature-like}. You can see enough of them singing in the cartoon and in the movie. I noticed how some other cds don't, or sometimes don't even mention anything of the movies that they're inspired by, or have the characters present in any of the songs. I can also see why the makers of the movie and this cd wouldn't have much else to sing about other than the main characters and the plot. Most soundtracks don't. It's not all that bad, come to think of it. It's actually better compared to a few other soundtracks that weren't that good. This was. I'd have to enjoy most bands on the soundtracks to generally like the whole thing. Although most bands/artists on this cd I am not too familiar with, it's somewhat worth listening to for the fun of it. Hope this helped.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Soundtrack Album is from a Cartoon?, March 30, 2005
By
Dubioz Don (Cebu City, Philippines) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music from the Movie and More... (Audio CD)
Since my daughter is both an Avril Lavigne and Sponge Bob fan, I decided to pick up this album when I realized I couldn't have Green Day's "American Idiot" with its explicit lyrics around the house.

Avril's cover of the SpongeBob theme is Grade A! Too bad it's too short, though, so I converted it to MP3 and using my MP3 editor made it loop back to "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea" from the second "Sponge Bob Square Pants" after "Flop on the deck and flop like a fish" and burned a CD for the car. My daughter loves the "remix". :-p

The only songs I couldn't stand listening to are Patrick's "Under My Rock" and the "Goofy Goober Rock", the latter being a sacrilegious cover of the Twisted Sister classic. Guess what? I put in "I Wanna Rock" in the CD I burned and it fits right in, coming right before Motorhead's "You Better Swim".

The truly kiddy stuff here is limited, Googy Goober Song, Best Day Ever, Now That We're Men and an opera style cover of the SpongeBob theme by the Pirates. And even those you can sing along to. Well, maybe not "Now That We're Men."

Overall, four stars. Make no mistake, this is the BEST soundtrack album to emerge in recent years. And maybe its not too late to remove "The Goofy Goober Rock" from the movie and replace whatever sequence it's in with animated sealife versions of Twisted Sister singing the original. ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as good as the movie itself, March 18, 2005
This review is from: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music from the Movie and More... (Audio CD)
It took the movie forever to come out, and just as good as this movie is, the soundtrack was just as good at the same time. I love Spongebob Squarepants. He is so funny and square and spongy. The CD unwraps with Avril Lavigne's (the greatest singer in the history of pop music) version of the 'Spongebob Squarepants theme song, and it is awesome. Then, the Flaming Lips carry on with 'Spongebob and Patrick confront the wall psycic Energy'. Then, 'Just a Kid' by Wilco, it is a fun song with lots of really cool melodies and motions and the back ups on it sound just like, oh, so great. Then, track 4, the most awesome track of them all, 'The Goofy Goober Song' preformed by Spongebob, Patrick, Mike Simpson and Goofy Goober, it is a lot of fun and it sounds good to, lots of dancing fun is on this track. Then, there is 'Prince Paul's Bubble Party' which sounds cool and is bubble blowing-tastic, it features lines and quotes with the actual characters from the Spongebob Squarepants Series episode, 'Bubble Stand', it's a really good song. Up next, you hear Electrocutes 'Bikini Bottom' which is easy to swallow and it rocks out loud! 'The best day Ever' is preformed by Spongebob Squarepants, it is so cool. 'They'll soon Discover' and 'Ocean Man' are ok, but they are actually nothing special, I mean, I like them and they rock, but they just aren't the most noticable. So, anyways, then Patrick's 'Under my Rock' is like won of thoes modern songs that is great and catchy at the same time. 'Goofy Goober Rock' and 'You better Swim' end the album nearly, they are great. 'The jellyfish Song' is like overly awsome and a lot of fun, a whole lot of fun. 'Movie Version: Theme Song' by the Pirates is good, catchy and not the most noticable song on the whole disc. This album rocks, you should buy it, trust me it is great! If you reject it, you don't know what you are missing!

4.0 out of 5 stars I think it's great! ^_^, December 26, 2004

My favorite track is "Under my rock", I just cracked up when Patrick said "or eat a piece of pie in".

"Best Day Ever" is a really good song to cheer you up.

I love the little rap on "Bubble Party", where it's like

It's a nice day, and the water's cool
Spongebob's looking for something to do
To earn money and stay out of trouble
He built his own stand for blowing bubbles
Squidward said no one in the water
Wants to blow bubbles and pay him a quarter

The only thing I didn't like was that the CD didn't come with lyrics. :(
