1.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly bad November 3, 2013

So now that THQ is forever gone, Spongebob video games are now handed over to Activision. I bet that'll go as well as the next Call of Duty. Anyway, Plankton's Robotic Revenge's DS release was something I thought I'd touch upon. After all, I'm still one to appreciate the fact that there are somehow still some new DS games coming in for the system. Nevertheless, my expectations were pretty low. And needless to say, this game meets those low expectations.

The game is a semi-top-down third-person shooter (What?) with Spongebob and friends (conviniently present) setting out to find the Krabby Patty formula while Plankton's at it again (as if we hadn't heard this plot line before). The opening cutscene (and the ending) is surprisingly a full-motion video rendering of the console outing's, giving me some hope. However, I was simply mislead - The cutscenes afterwards were picture stills from the console game featuring an unnecessarily zoomed out camera view.

After the first cutscene, you're treated to monotonous shooting action. The game mechanics aren't really bad, but the major issue with this game is that it's very BLAND. The developers don't seem like they've tried anything to go beyond the basics when developing the game. What you'll encounter are standard enemies that either move to you, shoot, or stay still. You can kill them by either punching or shooting at them. Punching knocks them out in one hit, though, so I prefer you do that, unless you need to shoot.
Even with the enemies feeling like they've been borrowed from the bargain bin of game structure, you'd think that perhaps the levels themselves could offer some fresh design. NOPE they do NOT.

3.0 out of 5 stars Forgotten but not gone. January 12, 2014

My son played it for Christmas when he got it, and then one time after that. It's been relegated to the pile of games they'll only play when they're extremely bored and/or there's absolutely nothing else to do.
