The Nickelodeon's hit undersea cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants concerns a plucky and perky pants-wearing sponge who has a noble dream: he wants to be the world's greatest fry cook. In his debut Game Boy Color game, SpongeBob has decided that the best way to meet that goal is to go on a 2-D side-scrolling adventure in search of the lost spatula of the Flying Dutchman. The problem is that the game is just too repetitive and dull.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Legend of the Lost Spatula plays like most any other 2-D side-scrolling adventure. SpongeBob has to recover the four oven dials to unlock the Flying Dutchman's oven. En route, he must explore Bikini Bottom (his homeland) and fight all kinds of mean crustaceans and other sea critters using a burger-flinging spatula and a jellyfish-catching net (there are four other wacky weapons). He must get past a few puzzles and deal with boss creatures as well. Pretty standard stuff overall, maybe too standard.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Legend of the Lost Spatula lacks the inspiration of a Mario or Rayman title, and barely comes close to the humor and whimsy of the excellent cartoon show on which it's based. Still, the violence is cartoonishly entertaining, the characters are vibrant, and the graphics are quite good. Fans of the show might be able to overlook its faults, but the game could have been better. --Andrew S. Bub

As the wacky-but-popular character from the TV cartoon you'll head out on an undersea quest to find the Flying Dutchman's Golden Spatula in order to become the ocean's greatest short-order cook. More than 10 stages full of adventure and side-scrolling action make up this epic treasure hunt. Along the way, you'll meet and interact with many of the show's popular recurring characters like Mr. Krabs, Squidward, Sandy Cheeks, and Patrick Star. Keep an eye out for hidden clues to the Golden Spatula's whereabouts as you make your way through each stage, but also be wary of enemies and obstacles. Colorful cutscenes tell the story between levels, and you can use the password system to save your progress through the game. SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: Legend of the Lost Spatula is only compatible with Game Boy Color systems.

me and my dad are spongebob fans so my dad got me this game and it's great you deliver a pizza, you find patricks shorts and suidward's jelly and find sandy's hat and the items in the show are weapons in the game and the cities are the levels spongbob squarepants fans buy this game

For those of you who are die-hard spongebob fans, i recommend this game just for the fact of seeing the familiar characters. The graphics are really top notch and the little animations are quite amusing. Though, it isn't as involving or as good as Metal Gear Solid, it still is a fun game to play. It's not all trying to eliminate enemies, it's a sidescrolling, action/RPG type of Genre, which i particularly like. If you're a fan of the spongebob series, or just looking to pick up a title you can play with ease, id suggest Spongebob: Tale of The Lost Spatula.

I was reading the other reviews and most said it was to repetitive. When I boughtthought I was going to be bored lickity-split. Although I've had for 2 weeks, I still play when I have time, I love this game. Most characters from the show are there and its just cute and clever! If you love the show and games buy this!
