3.0 out of 5 stars I love SpongeBob, but this is the worst SpongeBob toy
I was hoping that this toy would be fun. I got the "Eye Poppin' SpongeBob" before it sold out and that toy is a riot! It probably has around two dozen phrases it says, leading me back to squeeze and shake it again and again. This toy, however, will likely not be played with much. Here's what this toy does:

I was hoping that this toy would be fun. I got the "Eye Poppin' SpongeBob" before it sold out and that toy is a riot! It probably has around two dozen phrases it says, leading me back to squeeze and shake it again and again. This toy, however, will likely not be played with much. Here's what this toy does:

It comes with three different hats. It will play a different song depending on what hat you put on it. You can also leave the hat off and get a different song. SpongeBob moves a bit while the songs play (his left hand "strums" the guitar, the top of his head goes up and down, and he rocks back and forth). You can either have the toy be on, allowing you to push a button to hear the different songs, or you can make sure that one of the hats is firmly placed on SpongeBob's head, which enables a motion sensor. In the latter case, the least little bit of movement of the toy causes the song to start, so if you had this thing in an office everyone who came by and touched it would set off a song.

The two big problems with this toy are that the songs sound terrible (you know, that awful tone that singing toys frequently have -- very tinny and very loud) and the mechanical noise from the mechanism that causes the toy to move is almost as loud as the music. Another thing I don't like the toy is that it really is ONLY suitable for hanging on a wall; the bottom of the toy, out of the box, is curved so it cannot sit on a flat surface unless there is also a wall behind it to stop the toy from falling over.

As to my durability rating, I am just guessing. Given how this thing sounds when it plays, though, I'd be surprised if it held up very long.
