Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This 1986 completely improvised one-man show at the Aquarius Theatre in Los Angeles is the essence of Bobby McFerrin’s magic. Using only his pliable voice and his body as percussion instrument, McFerrin lets his fertile imagination and vast musical knowledge run in free-association overdrive, dipping into jazz tunes, arias, and Beatles songs along the way. Wayne Shorter joins him for a duet on Miles Davis’s ‘Walkin.’ Added to this remarkable concert are the two videos that McFerrin made in support of his Simple Pleasures album.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome and timeless entertainment from an extraordinary talent!, August 3, 2005
This is a wonderful, astonishing DVD that is sure to entertain you, whether you are a long time Bobby McFerrin fan, or only know his hit song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" (that upbeat, calypso-inspired tune known to many). Let me just start by saying that the man is much more than that song--he is anything but a one hit wonder.

This DVD is a recording of his live concert, taped in California, in 1986 (nearly 20 years ago). Bobby's amazing ability to do tonal singing (that's singing two notes at once--a rare talent that few singers possess), transform his voice and body into as many as five instruments, mimic everyone from James Brown to Joan Armatrading, and even involve the whole audience in his take on "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and a spontaneous jazz jam is truly extraordinary. Some of my favorite cuts, featured in the concert, include "Cara Mia" (a beautiful calypso song, composed by Bobby McFerrin himself, with his instruments being his remarkable voice and a stool--for additional percussion), "Thinking About Your Body" (composed by McFerrin--very upbeat and melodious), and other tunes--above all, it is all largely spontaneous. He incorporates the "clicks" of a photographer's camera, in the audience, into a little ditty he comes up with on the spot. Bobby even sings an opera duet with himself!

You will absolutely love this concert. The only downside to it is that it is over WAY to fast. You will definitely enjoy the bonus songs, too. They are "Don't Worry, Be Happy" (a joyful and wonderfully absurd video featuring the clown prince, Bill Irwin and Robin Williams), and "Good Lovin'".
This DVD will definitely inspire you to get in touch with your inner music--be that singing, drumming on table tops or simply listening to the music of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spontaneous Inventions, February 25, 2007
I saw Bobby McFerrin do this show live. While there's nothing like a live performance, this DVD comes the closeset to actually being there. It's infectious live and will make you smile watching the DVD.

Bobby McFerrin is a truly singular talent and I think you will enjoy it as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Haven't Seen It, You Should, March 23, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This was the concert that led me to a lifetime love and respect for Bobby McFerrin in the 80's and it still holds the magic. If you don't know his work - it's a must-see. If you do know his work, it will remind you again of his sheer pleasure and love for music in its base form. Who hasn't danced to thier own music and beamed from within? OH, and this DVD also convinced my husband and my 6 year old that Mommy isn't the ONLY crazy person on the planet who finds music and laughter everywhere and in the oddest of places....:)
