What People are Saying About the Spooky Series...

"If you have ever felt a chill as you walked past a Vermont graveyard, or felt an unseen hand brush against you on a mountain in Maine, you will love Spooky New England. And if you don't believe in ghosts--you will." - Michael Carlton, Editor, Yankee Magazine

"Spooky New England is one of those books that you cannot put down until you reach the end...This is the ideal book for curling on the couch on a rainy afternoon and enjoying an entertaining read." - Rambles: A Cultural Arts Magazine

"The author lets the stories speak for themselves which is virtue not possessed by many folklore books... " - Dennis Phillips, Top 1000 Reviewer, Amazon.com

"If preparations for Halloween have put you in an eerie frame of mind, S.E. Schlosser has the perfect book for you..." - Donna McCrohan Rosenthal, Ridge Writers

"The great thing about this book is that, like most folklore, it seems like you’ve read or heard most of the stories before. They exist in the periphery of our memory, and reading them again is like coming home to hear familiar stories from a favorite grandmother..." - Matt Staggs, Skullring.org

From the Back Cover

Pull up a chair or gather ’round the campfire and get ready for twenty-five creepy tales of ghostly hauntings, eerie happenings, and other strange occurrences in the state of Florida. From the ghost car of Islamorada that is literally blown off a bridge along Highway 1, to the hermit of the Fort Myers swamplands who takes revenge on a pirate who murdered his son, the stories in this entertaining and compelling collection will have you looking over your shoulder again and again.

Florida folklore traditions are kept alive in these expert retellings by master storyteller S. E. Schlosser and through artist Paul Hoffman’s evocative illustrations. You’ll meet ghosts and evil beings, hear things that go bump in the night, and feel an icy wind on the back of your neck on a warm summer evening. Whether read around the campfire on a dark and dreary night or from the backseat of the family van on the way to Grandma’s, this is a collection to treasure.

Format: Paperback
Alligators, flat sandy land and water help give Florida unique and unforgettable folklore. S. E. Schlosser's book captures some of that uniqueness. The character's Schlosser uses to tell the folklore stories are almost as interesting as the folklore stories themselves. One of my favorites in reading the book is called "The Hermit" a story about a man who has a partially trained alligator and is waiting to get revenge on a pirate who killed his son. "The Cypress Tree" tells about a real event and the storyteller named Hank helps make the story come alive as pictured in the drawing that accompanies the story. "Roses" tells about another real event that occurred at Fort Marion where a cannon fell through the floor of the upper gun deck and the discovery that followed.

There are twenty five stories in all and a ghost called "Old Red Eyes' is worth reading as is "True Love", "Spanish Moss" and "Spook Hill". All the stories are well told and who knows when you visit Islamorada you may get to follow a ghost car early on a misty morning as told in "The Antique Car". The book is well worth reading and owning.

Format: Paperback
Spooky Florida is a very good book! There is a variety of stories that range from the most scariest to the most heartfelt. The majority of the stories are very good, but my ultimate favorites are In The Elevator, Old Red Eyes, Ghost Baby, The Phantom Coach, Tailybone, Little Lucy, Roses, True Love, The Hermit, The Choking Doberman, The Witch's Curse and Initiation. Do buy the book because it has more interesting stories than not and you will enjoy reading them!

I found the stories quite interesting especially since I happen to live in Florida.
I do recommend this book to anyone even remotely curious about ghosts and
hauntings in the retirement state.
