Kris Kristofferson is a true American treasure. A writer of great warmth, wit, understanding, compassion, intelligence & true musicality & a singer whose genuine voice captures all the fine qualities of his writing.
Cheers!

two albums that even most Kristofferson fans don't know of ... i have a long review of "Spooky Lady" on the site but "Shake Hands with the Devil" is the following and certainly should be in any Kristofferson or outlaw country fan collection ... frankly, i wish i had the cover of this album in an autographed 8x10 framed photo ... just a great shot of Kris on stage ...

while not a perfect album like his first few, it is still important and one for a regular rotation in your car or home

Kristofferson went through a very long period where his output was spotty and very inconsistent. Both these albums are pretty good, but pale when compared with his best. For some reason, he changed the style of his arrangements from country to more of a blues/rock feel which ruins a lot of the good songs! Get his first two albums first - they are classics, and try his latest four too, much better than these!

When Kris writes,he puts you there, whether it's a bar, where you can smell the stale beer,or on an old ship, that you can smell the old wood and salt water in the air.He is such an amazing writer. He can see Mary Magdalene as a real, feeling person and put you back in time,to the days of Christ,as if you were there. He hightens all your senses, and takes you on journeys of his life and those of others.

Kris, Mickey, and of course Hank, could never have been the best
without knowing human nature. Spooky sideshow, his early work, and
Shake hands with the Devil, show's he is still the same thinker he
was, and is, to this day.

Whiskey, whiskey and Fallen Angel have been two of my favorite songs
for years. Thank you for bringing them back. You can't beat music like this.

Spooky Lady's Sideshow is one of my favorite albums from the '70s, despite the fact that it almost cost me a dream job in radio when I played "Rescue Mission" without previewing it. That line about Tabasco in the captain's Vaseline is one of the milder ones. Most of the tunes are cutting and still politically relevant. That you get Shake Hands with the Devil—one of KK's less memorable albums—is a bonus.
