Product Description

If you rule the local pub on trivia night, or just dream of the day you will, Sporcle is the perfect app for you. This popular quiz game for Android has got all the bells and whistles. More importantly, it's got great quizzes!

- A Quiz for Every Occasion
"Oh sure," you're thinking. "Another app with 10 or 15 lame quizzes." Au contraire! Sporcle for Android has thousands of inventive and challenging trivia games. Running the gamut from Entertainment to Religion, from Sports to Literature, there's a quiz here for anyone and everyone. You can browse through 15 different categories or simply select a random quiz and start playing.

Here's just a small sampling of the types of trivia tests you'll find on Sporcle: "50 Largest U.S. Cities." "Name that Sitcom." "Ancient Wonders." "Baby Names from Shakespeare." (?) "Guess Your NBA Team." "SNL Cast Blitz." "Famous Biologists." (??) And on and on.

These aren't your grandpa's multiple-choice quizzes, either--each one has a written answer that you must provide. As soon as you type the right answer, BING, it pops into the right spot. When you type in a wrong answer however, the app just sits and stares at you, quietly judging you. Play for time or play for fun, the decision is yours.

- How Do You Measure Up?
Sporcle scores your performance on every quiz and stores the information right in the app, so you can track which ones you've taken and how you did. You can also get more in-depth statistics on each game, seeing how your performance stacks up against others who have taken that quiz. And don't worry; each quiz reveals the correct answers once you've completed it, so you don't have to wonder. You can also take the same quiz again if you like.

- It Gets Better
One of the best things about Sporcle is the "connectivity" it provides. You can see comments from other players about each quiz and compare your score against theirs right on your phone--but that's just the beginning. You can then go online, create an account on Sporcle.com, and have even more fun. On the site you can comment on quizzes you've taken, rate them, view all kinds of statistics, invite and connect with your friends, post your results to Facebook and Twitter, and more. You can even create your own quiz.

Even if you just stick to the app, there's more than enough to keep you busy and entertained for a long while. It features thousands of quizzes pre-loaded in every category--and you don't have to have network access to play them. Just download the Android app and start exercising your brain. With Sporcle, there's always a new challenge waiting for you.

I wish that the games would update more frequently. I follow Sporcle on Twitter, where they tweet when new games are added to sporcle.com. The same games don't show up on the Sporcle app until days later. Another annoying thing is when you have to add a comma to a word (i.e. in song lyrics) when you already entered that word.

I'm always on the lookout for a good new game app for Android, especially a trivia/mind game that doesn't wear out its welcome in 10 minutes. Sporcle is a timed quiz program that challenges you on a range of different topics and themes. Lots of fun at times and annoyingly difficult at others, definitely recommended if you like this type of game. On the downside, it could use more frequent updates and new categories.

This would be fun if the answers did not have to be so exact. Song titles have to have each word start with a capitol letter. Words have to be hyphenated. UI is also lacking. You can only answer items in order you can't skip then return to a previous item. This makes showing all items like the song title quiz pointless.

Quizzes are timed and answers have to be typed in exactly. There are a number of questions I knew the answer to but could not get it to acknowledge. For example I spent over a minute working on getting it to take "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer." but could not get credit for it because I was not capitalizing the "T" the "The." Also I have found list where the list of answers are not complete. I picked up this app because it was free, but probably will not be installing it on my phone.

I bought the Sporcle app for my Kindle after going on the website and playing the Trivia games there. I also have the Ipod version, which I have to admit is a lot better than the Kindle version.
The Kindle version has plenty of games on it if you're just using it to keep yourself busy, but my main issue with the app is how you type your answers in. When you start typing, the word you are typing either will not show up, or the first few letters with show up and the rest will appear to be blank. This makes it very confusing when you don't know if you spelled everything right or need to delete a few letters. When you go to delete the answer you typed in, the words you typed will still appear there even if you constantly push the delete button. They will usually only disappear if you start typing another word.
Overall, I just don't like the Kindle version as much but I still will use it if I really do not have anything better to do.

I love the Sporcle website. I play all the time and find it well-implemented, clever, and entertaining. I like it so much I paid for this, which was a mistake. This app is none of those things.

Every game I've found so far requires that you type in the answers. No clicking games, which would be better on a tablet. Instead, you have to type, but there is no visible cursor, no way to go back to the middle of a word to edit a typo, and sometimes the point where you're typing seems to move at random. The screen also jumps around a lot as you play. With the time limit on games the same as the website, this makes failure inevitable.

You have to log in every time you open the game. Why?

Although it recognized my website account, it doesn't link to my results there, so I start to play a game only to realize that I've played it before.

The screens that are supposed to show you lists of games go blank at random and the only way I've found so far to restore them is to replay the introductory sequence about the app.

Overall, it feels untested and incomplete. It also feels like no one thought about how to make a good game for a tablet out of Sporcle. It's too bad such a great website has such a crummy Kindle app.

The quizzes are great and all, but if you can finish them, you're a much better Android typist than I. Don't think you're going to use voice recognition, either; It doesn't work with this game... at least, not on my Optimus V.
