Boy did the Triumph records need a remastering? The old CD releases suffered from poor sound quality but this is truly a lift!

So what about the music then..

This is the ultimate Triumph disc for me! This one together with "Thunder Seven" and "Surveillance" really does the trick!

The talented Rik Emmett sings his ass off on "Somebody's out there" and the material is so strong throughout the whole record it's stunning!

Buy!

By the time this album was released, Triumph was nearing the end of their musical journey. Their following CD "Surveillance", released a year later, was a lackluster affair that led to the band's demise. But this album was Truimph's last solid effort. The formulas are consistent in style with their prevoius releases, and the rockers on this album are well up to par. "Hooked On You", by far the best track on the album, is an excellent, driving and uptempo hard-rocker, musically blowing away its hard-rock and pop contemporaries of the time such as Bon Jovi and Cinderella. It should have been a big hit ! Other standouts on this CD are the rocking "Tears In The Rain", the midtempo "What Rules My Heart", the anthemic "Take A Stand" and the band's second Top-40 hit ever in "Somebody's Out There". Not the first choice among most Triumph fans including myself, but still a highly recommended realese still worth buying and listening to.

Triumph's style of hard rock has always been a bit on the different side, and this album continues this tradition. Rik Emmett is a very underrated guitar player, and the instrumental 'Embrujo' featured here, is almost worth the price of the album. As is on every Triumph album, the mainly acoustic guitar instrumental is the highlight, so if you are into classical guitar, with a rock'n'roll edge, check out each and every one of Triumphs albums.
The opening track 'Tears in the Rain' is a fast-paced rocker, that also features a great solo. 'Just One Night' and 'Take a Stand' are also good tracks.

Yes, this is one of the very best TRIUMPH albums. I have listened to all of the releases by TRIUMPH, and "The Sport Of Kings" is strong both lyrically, as well as in the overall strength of the music. This album has some of the best drum tracks and guitar licks that TRIUMPH has ever recorded. As for the reviewers who want to try and defile the quality and character of this album, I think they should have another toke, and put on their Good Charlotte & Nickleback songs. Then they can fill their ears with something more liken to their own intellect, because the music of TRIUMPH is just too intelligent for their limited comprehension. For all other Rock music lovers & fans of TRIUMPH, this is an album that is definately worth your time. I think it is worth your money, to add it to your music collection. 5 stars & much respect to TRIUMPH.

"Sport of Kings" is great music from a band that had an odd mix of members...Solid Rock to classically trained. Triumph ventured into some new stuff with this CD (album at the time)but it's still them at their best!

........... This is Canada's OTHER power trio, but quite honestly, they're a 99 Cents Store compared to the Saks 5th Avenue that is Rush, MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BAND....... Whew!!!!!!! With that said, Triumph, 2 me, is just a trio, not a power one, but I love trios, so here I am........ I have 5 of Triumph's cds & this is 1 of them... I only r8ed it a 3, but there are good, even gr8 songs here, but there's fluff 2....... If it wasn't for Rik Emmett, I'm not sure if I would have as many as 5 of their albums, but I really like the "Never Surrender" & "Thunder Seven" albums a lot, still, compared 2 the 5 I have by Triumph, I have 24 by my favorite band, Rush... Once again, Triumph, U R a good trio, not a power one...........

Triumph still rocked when this album was released and after this too. Any Triumph fans would say this sounds just like some of there other albums like "Just a Game," "Never Surrender," "Thunder Seven" and "Allied Forces." I just can't believe this has only a 'Gold' record. This album does not sound anything like pop, but more like hard rock. The linear notes included what the vinyl had, which was the lyrics and crew of the album. I would recommend this anyone who is a fan of Triumph and doesn't have this and for any 70's Hard Rock fan too. Overall this is a must have, (A).
