5.0 out of 5 stars Eating guide for my young athlete September 14, 2009
By Leila
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased this book to learn the proper caloric intake and ratio of types of foods (carbs, fats, protein) for my child who is a competitive athlete in two sports. While the text is written for coaches of college athletes, the diet calculations can be used for anyone because they all use body weight and height as inputs.

With this text, I was able to quickly answer questions such as: How many calories/day should my child eat? What is the best way to gain weight? At what rate can we expect weight gain? Are supplements useful and appropriate? How to eat to prep for competition? When and what should be eaten? How much? What should he eat during competition? What should he eat to recover from practice and competition? And so on.

I want to thank the author for putting her expertise into a book to share with others. Since incorporating her recommendations, we are successfully gaining weight in spite of heavy daily practices, which is helping us to have better results on the court and field. Also we have solved the problem of energy crashes during competition, which has led to better results. I agree with the author when she writes that one spends too much time practicing one's sport to have lack of nutritional preparation sabotage one's competition result. This book has improved our fitness for competition. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars sport nutrition for coaches September 11, 2009
By captain
Format:Paperback
Extremely well written and informative. If you are dedicated to your team and can put the time in to set this program up I'm sure the results will follow.I would suggest that all coaches set an example by following the "program". You know who I'm speaking to :The overweight, out of shape coaches who think screaming at their players is the only motivation they need.
