This does not work well because the angle of the hook is not sufficient to hold the laces--even when pulling at the correct angle. It keeps slipping off.

We purchased this product in hopes that our 10 and 9 year olds could begin tying their own skates. Well...it sort of works. The design is a bit awkward and difficult for small hands. It is metal and thin and therefore not very friendly to young, delicate hands. I would not recommend this product for smaller kids. Find something with a plastic handle or wait until they have the strength to tie the skates without such aids.
