I find the SportSuds works pretty well, I like the scoop, easy to dispense.
I would recommend this as a first choice, along with Win Green Dye Free, if you want something that is scent free. If you don't mind a scent, I would say try the Win in the blue bottle first.
I do not notice any scent left by the detergent.
I would recommend those looking to try these odor removing detergents to try out (in order of preference), Win in the Blue bottle, Win Green Dye Free and SportSuds, tying for 2nd place.
UPDATE 9/24/2013: I have noticed typically it may not be the washer that can cause scents/smells on clothing but the dryer. I have seen numerous products in retail to "clean" the washer of smells and odor but nothing for the dryer. The general assumption by the manufacturers are that everything that goes into the dryer is clean and odor-free. This is because a majority of the washing detergents contain a scent/perfume. Also, with all the perfumed dryer sheets, the manufacturers probably figure all is well. For our family, it is different. We use non-dyed, non-perfumed washing detergent. We also use scent free dryer sheets.
I have performed a test and determined it was our dryer adding a smell to the clean clothes. Try this - wash a load with a non-scented detergent, take a couple clothing out and hang dry in another room/area. Dry the rest of the load with a non-scented dryer sheet. I specified non-scented to avoid any cover up of odors/scents on clothing. Hang up a couple dryer dried clothing, next day compare the hanged dried vs dryer dried.Read more ›
With SportSuds, though, there is absolutely no odor! Not even after a long, sweaty workout.
The price seems a little expensive for such a small container...but I have a high-efficiency front-load washing machine, and I only need to use 1/2-scoop with it per load. As a result, I've been able to do 2-3 loads a week, and am still using my first container that I purchased several months back!
(I did try using Penguin's Sport Wash product as a free-sample a couple of times, and didn't feel it was as effective at keeping the odor out once I started a new workout.)
Turns out the first time I used Sport Suds in my washer, it did exactly what it was supposed to do. Sport Suds began to clean everything including detergent build-up and dirt deposits from the drum, hoses, pump, etc. All of this yucky stuff dissolved into the wash water and redeposited onto the clothes that I was trying to wash.
They said to run a few loads of Sport Suds in my washer WITHOUT clothes. After that I washed my clothes like normal.
Whoa. What a difference! Straight from the machine, my clothes actually FEEL cleaner; like squeaky clean. They smell so good no odor, no perfume just fresh. My sports clothes are totally amazing. During a workout when my clothes get hot and sweaty, they don't start to smell anymore. I guess that's a sign that the body oils have really been removed. Wow.
I've tried other sport detergents. Sport Suds works the best and is the only one that is biodegradable, non-toxic and hypo-allergenic. Sport Suds rocks!
Sports Suds performed a miracle. It got my sports tops clean, 100% clean. They smell like they could be hanging on a rack in the store. I'd recommend this to anyone. One word of warning, make sure you follow the directions and wash a few loads of empty washes with this to clean out the old residue in your washer or the old residue will end up on your clothes and you'll be wondering why Sports Suds isn't working. Follow the instructions.
I have washed jeans, polyester, nylon....you name it...and it all looks, feels and smells cleaner than ever before, and not just a little bit...a LOT cleaner.
Please, follow the directions, and run a couple empty loads with Sport Suds, first, because your lines and such have untold amounts of residue that will be stripped clean, and if you do this with a load of clothes, it will wind up in them. My washer is less than a year old, and had lots of gunk; unbelievable.
I'm not much of a "Green" conscious kind of guy, but for those who are, this stuff is certified as safe for use in small lakes and streams, is certified hypoallergenic etc. Impressive, for such a powerful cleaning agent.
In short, I love discovering stuff that makes my life easier, and saves me money. This has allowed me to incorporate nearly two dozen articles of clothing back into my wardrobe, and that, I like!

Cleans okay but not as amazing as other reviewers said at removing odors. Too expensive. Instead, I've started to use OxyClean Odor Blasters with my OxyClean detergent. Read morePublished 6 months ago by T-Bird
Good detergent, but I would recommend Rockin' Green instead. It works just as well if not better and it is much more economical. Read morePublished 12 months ago by Mandi K.
