This thing is great. It needs recharging pretty often if you don't turn it off but the rechraging is a snap. Also very pleased that the seal on the charging connection seems to work well as our dog swims with this collar regularly with no ill effects noted. We tried it out on our kids (after tring it on myslef first) to make sure we weren't hurting our dog too much...

1.0 out of 5 stars Really disappointed
I found this collar very difficult to juice up initially. When it finally did get properly loaded, I used it for several weeks, recharging it in between. Then it worked quite well and my dog was much better behaved. I did not need to use it for several months, then when I tried to juice it up again it would not hold the charge. Now it had died completely even though...

We tried it out on our kids (after tring it on myslef first) to make sure we weren't hurting our dog too much. It's really jsut an annoying zing and not what I would describe as painful. Well, our dog does not like it so he has become very obedient after just a few zings, The negative tone is all we need now and he comes running and ready to obey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Field Trainer, December 21, 2008

GREAT SERVICE AND GREAT PRODUCT! I use it every time I take my dog out. She is trained so well that I probably don't even have to put the collar on at all. However, because we are out in public, I don't want to take the chance of her running off (especially when she's chasing a rabbit or a cat!).

Have had the single dog unit for almost a year now, but needed a way to control 2 dogs at once, since only the one with the collar on would behave. When you add another collar to the system (up to 3 total) you lose the beep and tick modes, but that's OK since I never used the beep and the tick didn't always get their attention. Now both dogs behave since they know what's coming if they don't. I probably don't need another one for the 3rd dog, since she sees what happens to the other 2 and magically behaves now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great. Well worth the money!!!, February 20, 2012
This review is from: SportDOG Field Trainer Add-A-Dog Receiver, SDR-FS (Misc.)
I'm a very dedicated and compassionate dog owner. I was very hesitant to buy this product but my dog always knew when he was 'off leash' and would not listen or come every time when called. I take him for walks/runs a few times a day and run him for a 6-9 miles a week. I've spent a few months training him at the park and the dog park on basic obedience commands. He is great around the house, on leash and when he knows I will correct him if he chooses to ignore me. I felt like the only way to prevent loosing control of him when I let him off leash was to have a invisible long leash in the e-collar.

I've recently started using the 'nick' button on my dog during a camping trip and the result was amazing. Make sure you dog knows all the commands, especially come, and that you have positive control of your dog when you first use the collar. I let him wear it for a few days before I started using it. This was suggested in the operating manual and will prevent them from associating the collar with the stimulation. I've used the device on myself on 4 and that is as high as I will go with my dogs as well. It is definitely enough to get their attention and for the most part my dog will respond without yelping at a 2. This is a very low level of stimulation. My dog was not very treat or affection motivated but he loves to hunt and sniff around. This allows him to do that while keeping his attention on me and returning to me every time I call.

I was very concerned after reading all the opinions out there about 'ruining a dog' by using an e-collar. I've seen the opposite result. My dog loves the freedom that this device provides, and as a result of my increased trust in him he is a lot happier with his new found freedom on hikes and camping trips.

This collar has allowed a great deal of freedom with my dog and we both enjoy that a lot more than the long leash or the search after he bolts after a rabbit. I enthusiastically recommend this product to any dog lover who has had a scare after a dog bolted to chase another animal.

Test on yourself if you have a heart, before you responsibly use as a last option for a training aid. It is necessary to understand its strength.

Awesome product, great customer service, have had to replace a couple of collars, due to failure, but sportdog always promptly sent out replacements for free. These collars changed our stubborn, dog aggressive dogs behaviour completely.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect collar!, July 5, 2011

I can't believe I waited so long to get this collar. I had thought about it for a while as I have a lab mix that runs off when off-leash and only comes back when she feels like it. Finally I had enough (after two years) and got the collar. It worked perfectly and I only had to use it once the first time and she came back to me immediately.

I recently got another one for my other lab mix (one remote can control three collars) as he just didn't listen well when off-leash. If you have dogs and take them off-leash outdoors you know that dogs that don't listen to their owners can be a real hazard to themselves, and even others. When I got the collar I used it on him at the dog park. It took two tries and he stopped his behavior and obeyed. Amazing! This collar did in literally seconds what I couldn't do in months of training. Now I'll admit I'm no Cesar Millan, but I don't have time for that level of training.

It's been a year or so since I got these and now I have two perfectly behaved dogs. They are happy and love to have fun but when I call them they immediately come to me. I only ever have to use the collar on its lowest setting (1) for it to be effective with them. However, it is now quite rare that I need to use the collars at all with either of them as they know it's on their neck and they know that I'm in charge. I think they are actually happier since I got the collars to be honest, not less so. They know I'm in charge and they are comfortable with that.

One thing to be aware of is the collar comes with two extension prongs that I had to use with both dogs before the collars worked. One dog has longer hair but the other pretty short. I still use the prongs though. Keep that in mind when you first take it out of the box.

Get this collar, stop waiting and doubting. I recommend this to anyone who will listen. I feel sorry when I see poeple that would benefit from them but refuse to get them.

One more thing, my dogs swim a lot and these collars have zero problems with water. They swim at the beach, in rivers and at lakes. For what you get these are very reasonably priced.

I have two German Shepherds and hired a trainer who specializes in off leash training. With my training I got one of these collars included. They have been absolute game changers for my dogs. I can't imagine not having these with any dog I own in the future. They work well in rain, snow, and even when dogs are swimming or soaking wet. These are very good quality and I can use one controller for two receivers.

The battery will hold a charge for 2-3 days of being constantly on (but little actual activation). I'm not a big fan of the plastic collar, but it works well enough. I use it on both a beagle and a boxer and most of the time they respond perfectly to a level 2 buzz. If they are really in the heat of a chase it might take a 4-5.

Many of the shock collars are unreliable. This one is far superior. It has a much better range and the sensitivity can be dialed in easily on the remote. Some people think shock collars are cruel but with some dogs it will save their lives! One of our dogs wouldn't respond to any other training. She was too independent to even come when she was called out of traffic! Now she comes when called without having to use the shock. It only took a few times on very low setting. If you get one, use it on yourself first! See what you're doing to the dog! A low setting is almost always effective and it feels like a small pinch or poke. Not like sticking you hand in a wall socket like some people imagine. USE IT ON YOURSELF FIRST SO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE!!!!
