About SportHill
When SportHill founder Jim Hill left Virginia to run track at the University of Oregon, he discovered that his usual cotton sweats and nylon shorts were no match for Oregon's cold, rainy weather. While running and racing in Europe, he continued to search for clothing more appropriate for Oregon's climate. He admired Euro-styled athletic wear, yet the fabrics were not adequate to the challenge. Then he hit upon an idea: merge the European fit with the best American fabrics. Since then, SportHill has grown to satisfy customers worldwide, designing and producing apparel that meets or exceeds the requirements of elite class athletes in various climate zones. SportHill's staff of competitive athletes and its sponsored teams--including Canada's National Olympic Cross Country Ski Team, XC Oregon and Team XO Olympic development teams, and the USA Mountain Racing Team--continually test, innovate, refine, and improve SportHill clothing.

Our best selling 3SP pant. Skiers, snowshoers and runners love this pant for cold weather protection.

They have a fantastic temperature range, have been comfortable skiing from 0F to 35F with this as the only layer.

I didn't know they could spin polypropylene into a cloth but it definitely works.

I use these exclusively for XC Skiing, but they would be good for running too. I'd hesitate for biking, as I am not sure if they would hold up to use on a saddle. These are an excellent single-layer ski pant. They have a fantastic temperature range, have been comfortable skiing from 0F to 35F with this as the only layer. Falling and getting them covered in snow has no effect on the warmth of the pant, nor does wind. Makes it easy to get ready regardless of weather conditions, I just grab the sporthill pant -- I wish top layer decisions were as easy.

They are tighter fitting than you might expect unless you have very skinny legs, more like tights than typical running pants. I got the best fit in a men's Small even though my usual excercise clothing is Medium. I think the tight fit is a necessary part of how they work to keep you warm.

One thing to note is that the version pictured has an "XC" label on the front, I've seen versions of the pant with a "Sporthill" label instead. Both are the same 3SP fabric and seem to be just different year's iterations of the same model pant, however I did notice a slight difference in fit.... the "XC" version was more fitted to the outside thigh, whereas the "sporthill" one seemed to flare out a bit. The difference is very slight, would be hard to tell unless you compare them side by side.

    Highly recommended.

If you don't know. These are your top of the line winter cycling tights. These things keep me comfortable down to about 18f without having to wear thermals. They normally retail for $105. So I think this is about the lowest your going to find them. Go to their website and check out their fine line of Winter clothing. No, I do not work for Sporthill. I'm just a dude who rides everyday all winter. And I know what works for me. And Sporthill makes some of the best Winter Cross Country Ski clothing out there. Some of it's not cheap, but it will last you for many years. Get em' while there hot !

I wanted some decent pants for winter sports: cycling, XC skiing, jogging. These pants are simply remarkable. They are a thick, stretchy material that blocks wind and keeps you remarkably warm! The stretch form-fitting (not tights though) material does not bind when doing activities. In very cold weather, a simple base layer thermal underneath (under 35*F). Can't say enough of this pair of pants. FYI, I bought mine from The Bean when they had a sale and it was only slightly cheaper than the Amazon price, which is definitely worth it. I didn't know they could spin polypropylene into a cloth but it definitely works. Take care when washing and hang it up to dry.

Edit: be careful when putting on or talking of the pants, when the front pleat stitching (cosmetic down the entire front) becomes over-stretched, it'll tear easily.

These pants are TOUGH. I bought them about 18 months ago and they have gotten me through two winters. Why am i reviewing them now? Because I was reviewing something else, saw I didn't originally review that and realized what a travesty it was.

First off, I am in Wisconsin so there is about 5 months a year to use these pants. My current activity in the winter is about 50 miles a week of running / hiking. This is down on the trails, road, and through the woods. These pants are extremely warm. If you are a life long Wisconsinite I would not recommend wearing them running unless it is below 20 degrees out. Yes, they breathe extremely well, but they can get hot during high activity. Which is good though, because this past winter we spent literally 75 days below 10 deg Fahrenheit. And that is where they earn their rep. Teamed up with a pair of wind briefs to cover the 'junk', I could tackle these temps with ease. Even hitting multiple days of -15 air temps without any other tights underneath. They block wind extremely well, however I did notice that at -10 or below the knife like wind that is produced will start to sneak through. They do extremely will with snow, and there are no fears of perspiration building on the inside as the wicking material 3sp is just fantastic.

Oh, and i know i said it above, but these things are TOUGH. IE, falling on the cold winter concrete in them and they survive, hiking in cold woods with brambles and branches tearing at you, and just wearing the heck out of them. FOr the price they are an extreme value, so much so that I bought a 2nd pair for the wife!

    Absolutely recommend this!

Following extensive research to find a winter running pant - I did not want tights - I opted for these. They are terrific for freezing (below 0 Celsius, 32 F) running. They are very warm, prevent wind chill, and do not chaff. The downside is that they trap heat, so you'll want to use them only on the coldest of winter runs.

The real issue with this product is the sizing. If this product is targeted a at an athletic population, then they should have a size (Small-Tall) that is designed to fit close for my 5"10, 150lbs (34" measured inseam) build. They don't. I opted for the Small (sized to fit up to 5"8) and it works okay. I need long socks to keep my ankles warm - which do get exposed a little on runs. If you are small and taller than 5"10, I advise you to look elsewhere.
