About Sportcraft:
The General Sportcraft Company was founded in 1926. In those times, most department stores did not carry sporting goods, so General Sportcraft helped pioneer the concept of "family-fun" departments within the store. Soon, the popularity of these departments spawned stand-alone sporting goods stores.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Sportcraft introduced new outdoor games to America, such as bocce, horseshoes, and volleyball. In time, Sportcraft's focus moved to indoors games like table tennis, billiards, foosball, and darts, now the company's most popular product lines. Today, more than 13 million customers a year purchase Sportcraft products.

Pros:

Easy to assemble. Took me about ten minutes out of the box following the directions provided.

Fun game, easy to play for just about any age range. You do have to throw and bend a lot, though, so be aware if you have any issues with those tasks. If you like horseshoes or washers, you'll probably like this. It's a laid-back sort of activity.

Mobile and easy to store. I just took the bottom stand rails off and plopped it in a corner, then I just put the bottom back on whenever we want to play. Takes up less space that way and it's easier to transport.

Cons:

The bolos are not soft as stated. The balls are hard like a golf ball, which is as it should be. You have to have some weight on the bolos to make them fly right. There is a plastic coating on the balls, but it doesn't really soften them. Be careful throwing around younger kids.

This is is NOT pipe grade PVC. It's fairly light and a little on the flimsy side. It's not too bad but I've seen roadside sets made from thicker PVC that will withstand a lot more punishment than this stand will. I don't know how long this set will last with repeated use. Like any PVC product, don't leave it out in the sunlight as it will eventually break the plastic down.

It's ok, but I'd build or buy a more sturdy set for long-term use. You might pick this up if you're looking to try the game out to see if you'd like it. These games are fun at school fairs or fund-raisers.

This is an interesting, sometimes challenging game that sets up quickly, is easy to play, and is suitable for (older) children and adults alike. It makes a good break from the croquet and "corn hole" at summer parties and picnics, and because it is all hollow plastic, it travels well. The bola-type balls can be a little tricky to get the hang of, and I definitely think that players will need to be a little older, or at least, old enough to keep an eye out for young'uns who might wander into the playing area. Also, the box advertises the bola balls as "soft sponge", however, they are anything but. They are a hard, stiff, dense plastic, and they definitely would do some damage if slung hard enough (and heck, they're bolas, so they're easy to sling). All in all, this is a good product that when used properly is sure to provide many hours of outdoor family entertainment and fun.

Ladderball was originally invented by cowboys to perfect their throwing ability. The idea was taken from South American cowboys who use the bolo for roping. Outdoor challenges like throwing balls and pitching horseshoes are always fun activities, so ladderball fits right in with these.

Any activity that gets everyone up and moving rates 5 stars with me! There's nothing worse than being a couch potato when you could be outside and burning off body fat. This outdoor game is literally for all ages. The set up is simply putting together plastic poles and corners, which is finished in 10 minutes. When you take it down, you remove the ladders from the bases and store it flat- a 1 minute task.

The base is secured to the ground with 4 curved pins. I found that adding more pins works better. They sell these curved pins for about $2.00 in a longer size in garden centers for securing ground covers, and they really work well, added to the pins provided. You could even make your own pins with old hangers, which are easy to curve and cut with wire cutters. The top side poles are numbered and have 4 black rubber bands included for keeping score by moving the bands on the poles. The 6 bolos come in 2 colors- red and blue. They are golf ball size and just as hard, so just make sure little ones and pets know not to get in the way of the thrower. The game is easy to play, each of the three rungs on the ladder are worth different points and the first player to reach 21 points wins.

I've played ladderball with other friends and this is actually one of the better sets made. Wood ones seem sturdy, but crack after a few hard throws, and most of the bases are not wide enough to take the throwing power and fall over, even with weight on the bases. For $24.00, this is a great set- just add some $2.00 curved garden center pins for solid stability and you're ready to get off the couch and have some great family fun and outdoor exercise!

I assembled this game in few minutes with the help of a nine year old. She enjoyed connecting the pieces, and it was easy enough to assemble for her figure it out with very little instruction. The ladders are very light, easy to move around the yard but were still sturdy enough to hold up for game play. The PVC pipes are very lightweight, and I won't be surprised when the first one cracks. I don't have a good place to store the assembled ladders, and I don't see myself playing the game often, so it will be assembled and reassembled often. The pieces and parts, even without being fully disassembled, were easy to get back into the box. The game itself was fun, but not something I would want to play for more than an hour or so. It was easy enough for the kids to enjoy, it only took a few practice throws before everyone was able to score.

This is an easy-to-set-up, easy-to-grasp outdoor game. Two 'ladders' are put together with lightweight plastic tubing. There are 6 bolos (3 red, 3 blue) which are each basically 2 light plastic golf balls filled with sand and connected by string. You throw your bolos onto the ladder that is 25' from you, and you score based on which rung your bolo wraps around.

My sons, 12 & 15, have been enjoying this game every night, in the back yard after dinner. They try different methods of throwing the bolos and I'm pleased to say that they have yet to throw them at each other's heads. It's usually good for 20 - 30 minutes of play, and then they're done... it's not exactly a thrilling game filled with strategy and skill; you stand still and toss balls... but they do enjoy it for a short time every night.

I caution that this game is very flimsy. The components are cheap and lightweight. We've had it for about 2 weeks and it's still fine... but I'm assuming it will be trashed by September. Still, that's 6 months of outdoor fun for a pretty cheap price.

Bottom Line: Fun to play but simplistic. Flimsy; you get what you pay for. And I can't imagine kids under 6 being able to throw the bolos well enough to score.
