The second of George Brett's three covers. Begins with mention of Peter Ueberroth becoming the next Commissioner of baseball.

Article about horseracing featuring Time for a Change and $36 million winner Devil's Bay. From there an article about Sarajevo Olympic gold medal winner skier Bill Johnson winning in Colorado.

The article about the Royals talks about the struggles Kansas City faces with players convicted of drug use and Willie Wilson to miss playering time, Royals HOF Frank White says if the Royals have to rebuild he would not mind being traded. A no-name outfield was to open the season. Some new players added. It all turned out alright, the Royals won the 1985 World Series, they just needed some drama to help them win!

An interesting article about Steve Young who signed with the LA Express of the USFL. Says he has a contract that will pay him until he is 65 years old when he will get $2.4 million in 2027, supposedly even if the USFL folds, which it did. The Bengals offer him much less. It says that NFL teams get $14 million a year from TV. A smaller article about Marcus Dupree with coach Dick Coury saying Dupree "could be the best running back ever." Hmmm.

An article about Joe Brinkman Umpire School, 120 aspiring umps pay $1000 for 5 weeks of training, 13 will be hired for minor leagues, average 8 years in minors to get to MLB. Only 1% make MLB. Few black umps.

An article about West German basketball players like Det lef Schrempf playing college ball.

Tennis: New format in Virginia Slims to keep Martina Navratilova on the court longer, but still she whips Chris Evert Lloyd.

Hockey: Losing in Montreal cause the coach to get fired, some changes due to that.
