oh my oh my oh my....,
By Richard Cumming "dick" (the heartland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sports Illustrated: In the Paint (Hardcover)
SI's annual swimsuit issue is a highly anticipated delight for many afficionados of the female form.
This collection of photos of some of the most beautiful women on the planet features the body painting genius of Joanne Gair. These bountiful babes sure look like they are wearing some nifty swimsuits. NOT! They are all as naked as the day they were born. Wow! I wish I had this to read back when I was in my teen years! Still enjoyable, even now. The perfect gift for that straight male you know, aged teen to octagenarian. He will appreciate your exquisite taste.

Stunning and Beautiful!,

A beautiful gift for any SI fan, photographer or artist... the book is well put together and done with class. It goes through each year SI has featured the "painted" models with additional, never seen before photos and model comments. Gorgeous color. Great holiday gift.

Outstanding,
This review is from: Sports Illustrated: In the Paint (Hardcover)
The problem with most "Celebrity Nude" books is that the partial nudity requires convoluted poses (hands or arms across breasts) to hide the famous naughty parts. The models come off looking awkward and ashamed. This book conceals just enough to be tasteful but the paint allows natural poses that accentuate rather than detract from her natural assets. You can still enjoy the contours of her figure and the texture of her nipples without the usual hide-and-seek.
If you buy this one, I don't recommend "Exposure" which sufferes from the above faults. Try "Knockouts" which gives you the same women in a better presentation.

A book full of sexy arts,
By Ayana (On a star) - See all my reviews

A very good deal! This is a collection of many great body paint pictures, in great size and great quality. Pictures are very up to date. I bought it as a birthday present for my boyfriend, since he was such a SP swimsuit fan. He loved it! He even compared the pictures in the book with every swimsuit issue, and found out that even pictures in 2007 were already collected.

Who would have believed that body-painting could so realistically depict actual swim-suits, etc. Outstanding!

There's a def. mix of art & beautiful girls here. Some girls "seem" more clothed than others. I mean when you can "clearly" see the shape of their nipples it's almost better than those wet T-shirt shots that happen in the magazine every now & then. The main reason I can't give it a full 5 stars is that this covers a fairly breif time period hence only about 22 models are featured in this book. I may have to get the 5 decades book to complement this one for that reason. Not a terrible thing by any means. If you like Heidi Klum, you should like this book as she has over 15 pictures & some of the best "clear nippy" shots in the book. Sarah O'Hare, Marissa Miller, & Rebecca Romijn are each in over 5 photos. Everyone else is pretty much 3 or less. Some highlights for me are Daniella Sarahyba in the Kiss "suit" both artistically & for some "nice nippy", Tori Praver in the Who "suit" with some "nice nippy", Marissa Miller in the Sacramento Kings "suit", Heidi klum in the yellow & pink "suit", & Rebecca Romijn in blue & orange "suit" but I'm sure you'll find your own favorites. Other models in the book include: Rachel Hunter, Yamilla Diaz, Tamara Spoelder, Audrey Quock, Michelle Behennah, Ana Paula Araujo, Anne V, Jessica White, Melissa Keller, Noemie Lenoir, Petra Nemcova, Briget (Hall?), Molly Sims, Shakara Ledard, & Veronic (?). I might consider buying an updated book or a volume 2 a few years from now. After seeing Alyssa Miller looking oh so good in 2011, I know that would be a nice one to have in "permanent" book form.

It's defenitely for SI fans but I bought this book because photos and bodypaint. Good quality, large format. It's not for people who don't enjoy this kind of photography and art. Trying to be in the middle between SI fans - I'm not :) - and rest of the people , I would give 4 stars, because after few pages I felt a little bit bored, because the pictures are all the same style. I would expect some more diversity. It might be only my opinion, because SI fans are never bored with it ;)

JoAnne Gair is one of the best body painters that I know and her team and collection of work speaks for itself. Not only is she a phenomenal artist but she is an excellent photographer as well. Being that I am a photographer and body painter myself I can truly appreciate what she has accomplished.
This book goes to show that JoAnne does truly make it an art, it is not about creating an object out of the women but rather expressing beauty in combined form of the human element and the creative art that JoAnne applies. If you are new to bodypainting and seeking a resource to inspire you in your own work, then this is an excellent selection.

Now this is what I call art--hot chicks with pained on swimsuits. I have always been intrigued by this artform and when this one came out, I had to snatch it up. It's got some of the most stunning visual photography in the world. Buy it, read it. Also good The New Erotic Photography (Tachen 25th Anniversary) (French and German Edition).
