I watched this video in mixed company and I ended up liking it much more than I thought I would. The movie is hosted by Melissa Keller, who is a cute-as-a-button blonde supermodel who wears a two-piece string bikini while she's hosting (which was OK by me), and Jake Johannsen, a bearded comedian who says the stupid sexist things that every guy is thinking, but that Melissa dismisses as she quickly cuts to the next scene.

Of the segments with bikinis, my favorite was the first where Marissa Miller and Melissa Keller both wake up early near Iowa cornfields - and wear gauzy see-through top swimsuits - where the girls might as well have been topless for all that was revealed. But the women soldier on despite the cold and lack of sleep, and they genuine appear to enjoy what they're doing, as do the rest of the girls in this video.

There's a nice segment with Anna Kournikova and Serena Williams also in swimsuits. Anna looked every bit as good in a white bikini as she did on the wall poster in my baby brother's room. And Serena looked like a younger - and just as sexy -- version of Tina Turner! She has Tina's great hips - and Tina's million dollar legs. (Must've come from all that tennis, huh?)

To commemorate the 40th Anniversary Swimsuit Edition (of the magazine), a Who's Who of ex-swimsuit models was assembled, including Elle McPherson, Paulina Porozkova, Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks, and my favorite, Cheryl Tiegs. Elle especially looked great (as she does modeling her lingerie line which is available here on Amazon). Cheryl, unfortunately, was starting to age a bit, but parts of her - her magnificent breasts, especially - were every bit as beautiful peeking out over her banded-waistband swimsuit as they did when she emerged from the water in a similar outfit years-ago on the cover of SI (Sports Illustrated).

The sexiest scene, though, was the body painting segment where selected girls endure eight hours to have their bathing suits painted on. It must've been pretty tiresome to stand for that length of time without moving. And the funny parts of the scene come when the women also inform us that it's necessary to shave every bit of hair, and when one girl - Melissa, I believe - squirms when the artists apply that last bit of paint deeply between her cheeks! Amazingly, when their painted bikinis are done, it's actually hard to tell that the girls are completely naked underneath. Fortunately, the women with the perkiest breasts were selected to undergo this transformation, so they look every bit as supported as they would've if their bathing suit tops had been real!

Like many videos of this type, there aren't any lengthy views of the girls in selected poses (other than the still photographs flashed on screen). Everything seems like behind-the-scenes footage. So if you were to imagine watching a documentary on how to shoot a `Sports Illustrated' Swimsuit magazine edition, I think you'll know what to expect. I ended up liking this disc a lot! I hope you will too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate S.I. Swimsuit perv, IL, April 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2004 (DVD)
All I can say is wet, sheer, fishnet and see-thru. I have seen all of the S.I. videos and this one is by far the most revealing. Ohh, did I mention there is some areola. This is the sexiest/naughtiest one to date. A must buy for S.I. Swimsuit fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the actual swimsuit issue, February 27, 2004

Marisa Miller's photo shoot in Iowa is some of the hottest footage of a swimsuit model ever committed to film. Marisa Miller, Bridget Hall, and Ana-Beatrice Barros all all looked absolutely stunning. The only complaint I have is the extremely annoying "comedian" co-hosting the show with Melissa Kellar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marisa is a great covergirl., September 19, 2011

I bought some "SI" swimsuit videos and mags at "amazon.com", including this one. Covergirl Marisa Miller (Marisa Bertetta-Miller-Guest), the 5'-8", 110 pound, 34"/23"/35" sex goddess, is my favorite model in several "SI" swimsuit magazines and videos, and her hottest scenes are in this one. The "Barn Door Boogie" and "Body Painting" segments have her nude, and that's great! Some of the other girls, e.g. Melissa Keller are sexy too. I have a suspense movie with Melissa nude in it. Her "Body painting" segment here is fairly revealing too. As someone said, the worst part of this otherwise great DVD is Jake Johannsen who annoys me and other people. I class him with Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler as more nauseating than amusing. Oh well, it's easy to fast forward to "Barn Door Boogie" on this DVD.

the painting of the swimsuits was one of my favorite moments of the show.
the video is done in a tasteful way.
the models included in the video are great looking even though there are some i don't think are that hot but what makes up for it is Marisa Miller being in the video.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2004: spotlighting American beauty . . ., April 21, 2010
This review is from: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2004 (DVD)
Sports Illustrated began paying homage to women in swimwear in 1964, with their first swimsuit issue. In the years that followed, the publication has evolved into a world-wide phenomenon.

The SI Swimsuit specials, are a promotional tool intended to raise interest in the annual swimsuit issue. You get a peek at which models will be in the issue, and where the SI crew went to shoot them. These are mostly behind the scenes, making of type productions, where you get a taste for what was involved in the various shoots. Unless you are a model, or photographer looking for some pointers, there probably isn't a lot reason to buy these things.

That being said, the 2004 edition marking the 40th anniversary of the swimsuit issue, is better than most in the series. The theme was "American Beauty", which meant staying at home, and shooting at various places around the USA. The results are some different looks than what you normally see. Instead of exotic out of the way locales, or remote tropical beaches, the SI crew is down on a farm in Iowa, on a ranch in Wyoming, in the Adirondack mountains, on the eastern shore at Montauk, New York, and for a taste of the south, along the waterways of Natchez, Mississippi. Surrounded by red and orange rock formations, Lake Powell, Utah, is the most picturesque location, used for a shoot.

The models are of course world class, with Angela Lindvall, Marissa Miller, Bridget Hall, Petra Nemcova, Ana Beatriz Barros, Jessica White and Melissa Keller, being among those featured. SI is the pinnacle for any swimsuit model, and everyone involved is motivated to give their best effort, hoping to capture the much coveted SI cover. An honor that went to Veronika Varekova, who was photographed by SI veteran, Walter Iooss Jr.

One of the newer trends, body painting, is also featured. And if the assortment of beauty were not enough eye candy, tennis stars Anna Kournikova, and Serena Williams also appear. The cherry on top, is a group shoot, gathering members of SI's Hall of Fame, for a studio session with photographer Iooss. Featured are Vendela Kirseborn, Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks, Stacey Williams, Valeria Mazza, Cheryl Tiegs, Elle MacPhereson, Paulina Porizkova, Roshumba Williams, Rachel Hunter, and Heidi Klum. No wonder Iooss loves his job.

Technically, 2004 appears to be a transitional year, as a digital SLR is used for the first time, rather than the traditional media of print or side film. Taking great swimwear images is harder than it may seem, and usually involves more than just posing a beautiful model in front of some scenic background. Running 69 minutes, this video is intended to sell magazines, not be instructional, but there are still some things that can be learned by either aspiring models or photographers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Numbnut host alongside Melissa Keller, November 19, 2004

This review is from: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2004 (DVD)
Melissa Keller and her joke of a comedian sidekick [Jake Johannsen] head up this years swimsuit fiesta to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Swimsuit Special, which is aptly titled "American Beauty"

DVD Content... Once again for the 2004 DVD the quality is right up there with previous years. Some of the hottest ladies in the land of freedom fighters turn up for this years show off, and amoungst all the bad jokes from Johannsen the other talent is pretty damn good. Once again repeat performances from Melissa herself, Molly Sims, Bridget Hall and last years cover Petra Nemcova really fill your screen with fantastic images. In addition guest appearances from tennis aces Serena Williams and Anna Kornikova really like to steam up the camera with their saucy off court attire. The disc also features a fantastic "Hall of Fame" chapter which takes us back to the girls who made the SI Swimsuit specials legendary, including Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks and Australia's favourite "Body", Elle MacPherson.

DVD Quality... There's nothing bad about this disc at all, if it's entirely possible it could be better quality than last years disc. Just sit back and enjoy the show.

Overview... The only thing that is really dissapointing with these SI Swimsuit editions is the choice of host, or in this case the co-host. Why do they keep hiring these supposedly funny comedians?? Does the SI team want to degrade the quality of presentation? Melissa Keller could have done a fantastic job [like Rachel Hunter from last year] in providing the useful information to viewers without the pathetic comic sidekick. It's best to turn the volume off for those portions of the show and feast your eyes on Ms Keller.

Enjoy!

I admit to my mistake, I thought this was a video with photos, no a film with all the e-Channel type nonsense. You must spend a lot of time in order to look at something worth it. Lots and lots of interviews, presenters, a shame.

If it only had the photos and no nonsense talk!!
