Gr 6-9--An overview of the business aspects of sports. Dolan begins with a summary of the most obvious impact of money on sports: escalating player salaries and recent labor disputes. This discussion is followed by overviews of the effect of TV on revenues and a look at the influence of money on college athletics. There is even a discussion of the sky-rocketing value of players' autographs and sports memorabilia and the impact it is having in a world where autographs used to be given for free. The book is, on the whole, well organized, but the style is somewhat dry. The few black-and-white photos seem mostly thrown in to break up the pages. An extensive list of notes is included. There is little written on this important aspect of sports for young people, and the book should be a useful source for reports. How much interest the topic will generate beyond assignments is doubtful, though, since most young fans prefer to dwell on the accomplishments of the athletes rather than on the machinations of the front office.

A terrible book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: In Sports, Money Talks (Library Binding)
I just want people to know that this book is not worth reading. I felt that I wasted my money on something so out of touch with the real world of sports and how things really run. This was a feeble attempt to prosper in the face of lying to customers and misleading them into believing that this book was something that it isn't! I pray to God that In Sports Money Talks is taken off of the shelves as soon as possible so that people will not buy a book that contains little to no pertinent information about the sports world.
