1.0 out of 5 stars Nice while it worked
I liked the drawer, programmable code, and key backup. But as another reviewer noted, mine also stopped working just shortly after the warranty ended. Even the key wouldn't open it. Luckily I was able to pry it open in about a minute.

This allows me to have nearly instant access to a firearm for home defense while at the same time keeping firearms secure at all times. No more worrying about walking in on a burglary and having a criminal use your own gun against you. No more worrying about the kids, visitors, or anyone else having an "accident". This is a "must buy" for all handgun owners.

5.0 out of 5 stars electronic pistol vault, April 8, 2008
Excellent for my intended use: quick, easy access, but safe from inquisitive children. Did not want to spend $150 or more for a burgler proof vault or $300 for a biometric quick access vault. Just wanted peace of mind against kid access/accident, but reasonable access for an intruder. I like the key backup feature and the external battery terminals in case the internal batteries go dead. At $50, it fits the bill nicely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Electronic Pistol Vault, March 22, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The vault is very well made. It was easy to mount. I especially like like the way the door springs open when the combination is entered.

1.0 out of 5 stars Spend a few dollars more for a better safe, November 24, 2009
This review is from: ADG Sports Secure Vault Electronic Pistol Safe (Sports)
If you think this is just like the Gun Vault, but cheaper, you're right about the "cheaper" part.

This is a cheap metal box with cheap electronics and cheap, unreliable buttons.

You don't have the option of defining a pattern that includes pressing two buttons simultaneously, which is important if you want fast access and better security against kids randomly pushing buttons until it opens.

Imagine you wake up and believe there's an intruder in the next room, possibly armed.
Is this what you want him to hear:

beep beep beep beep beep-beep-beep dang it
beep beep beep beep beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-WHERE'S-beep-THAT-beep-DANG-beep-KEY-beep-beep...

1.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy construction and can be opened in < 2 seconds, June 11, 2008
I purchased one of these units some time ago. After about 4 weeks the electric servo mechanism that opens the internal latch failed to operate, leaving the latch stuck in the closed position and preventing me from using even the key override. Permanently stuck in a closed and locked state. I had to pry the safe door open with screwdriver to recover my firearm (a process that took, amazingly, 45 seconds with a common screwdriver - very soft steel).

Also, these safes (at least the model I had) can be opened in under 2 seconds without a key or combo. Make sure you mount them securely so they don't fall and like, hit the ground or anything...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Safe, April 12, 2009
This review is from: ADG Sports Secure Vault Electronic Pistol Safe (Sports)
I have two of these, and have had them for several years. I have never had a problem with either of them, despite having gone through 3 sets of batteries over the years.

Contributor chrisr talks about how easy it was to open these safes without a key or combination. I think chrisr was missing the point of these devices. These safes are not heavily armored, and they will not withstand a concerted physical attack. But that is not what they were designed for.

The purpose of the ADG Sports Secure Vault Electronic Pistol Safe is to ensure appropriate access control for a loaded hand gun while ensuring fast access in an emergency. It is small enough to fit inside convenient furniture like a night stand or desk. It is strong enough to prevent unauthorized persons from accessing the contents under normal circumstances.

If you want the strongest and toughest safe for strong attack resistance, then you will want to buy a high end gun safe, for at least 20 times the cost of this unit. But then you will lose the convenience of being able to hide your firearm and have it available quickly from convenient locations.

Remember, the solution to firearms safety must meet you requirements, and there will never be a one solution that meets all of your needs. But safety must come first over all other considerations. This is one way to accomplish that goal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good item, April 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this item because of the price but I am writing the review because of the quality. I wanted a low price vault that had quick electronic entry with a spring loaded door. This device keeps any curious fingers away from your pistol. Its large enough for one pistol, I keep a M&P 40 in mine with room for two mags. If you're looking for something to keep near your bed, easy open and good quality for the money then this is the item you want. Very worth the price and they shipped it out the day after my order (Sunday) and I had it at my house by Friday. You can't beat that. Well packed and everything works as advertised. Get it!

Fast shipping, great product, the pistol safe is just like the one on the picture. It was pretty easy to set up and programed. The safe is very easy to operate even in the dark. I can easily store my 1911.45 with two clips next to it.I'm glad I bought it!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy, November 25, 2008
Zero stars needs to be a rating option. This product worked great until a few months past the one year warranty expiration. At first the door became finicky and you had to hold it in while you entered the combination to get it to open, soon it became obvious that you couldn't rely on being able to get your gun out in a hurry. Now, although you can still hear it try to open, you have to use the key to get it to open. Yes I replaced the batteries, it is a mechanical not electrical problem. I contacted the manufacturer and since it was out of warranty they offered to sell me me one for 25% off of the list price. Wow, how impressive, offer to sell me one for more than I can buy one from Amazon, without a discount. I certainly didn't want an exact replacement at any price, I want my gun to be safe, but to be able to count on accessing it in an emergency. I wouldn't buy this product.
