Grade 4 Up?Another entry in a series that introduces amateur and professional athletes from a variety of sports. Names include Kerry Strug (gymnastics), Oscar de la Hoya (boxing), Pavel Bure (hockey), Tara Lipinski (figure skating), Lisa Fernandez (softball), and Dikembe Mutombo (basketball). Like the previous volumes, this book strives to be multicultural and give equal time to female athletes. Entries follow the same pattern: basic biographical information written in an easy-to-read style, with an emphasis on how the individuals grew up and became involved in their particular sports, a list of the author's sources, black-and-white photographs, and an address where fans can write. This book also includes an alphabetical index at the end of the volume and a cumulative index for the entire series at the beginning, with the names of those included in this volume in bold print. This title would be a good resource for information on current sports figures, but collections will need to purchase the complete set.
