Gr 5 Up--This is the second series of "Sports Stars." Its 60 entries offer a multicultural selection of leading professional and amateur figures from various sports, as well as several teams and subjects such as Mighty Mary, the yacht that competed in the America's Cup race with an all-female crew. The criteria for inclusion requires these figures to have overcome a difficult obstacle. The clearly written entries consist of biographical information, a "scoreboard" that lists the athletes' accomplishments, lots of quotes and anecdotes, sources for more information, and addresses where fans can write to them. Indexes of athletes by name and by sport cover both series; this is confusing, as both of these series each have two volumes. This resource is useful for assignments and also appealing as leisure reading.
