The SportTube has met all of my expectations. I needed one that would hold 2 pairs of skis and poles, which it does beautifully. Add to that the wheels for easy rolling and, best of all, the fact that the tube's length can be adjusted so that it will accommodate whatever length skie one has. This is especially great as, now that ski lengths are sized so much smaller than in the past, a typical ski bag would have over 12" of wasted bag at the end of my 163cm skis. After 2 ski trips with it, it shows no damage, and appears to be pretty "bullet-proof".

The SkiTube really consists of two pvc/plastic tubes, one slightly smaller in diameter than the other that slide, one inside the other. It has a built-in handle that is quite long, to facilitate easy gripping for lifting/pulling. It has a TSA acceptable closure/lock, and will also accommodate various keyed or combination locks (not included).

The SkiTube comes with a shoulder strap that attached to the handle, but I found the SkiTube a bit cumbersome to carry (although no moreso than a regular ski bag). An optional handle to attach to the end of the tube to facilitate pulling is offered as an option, but I did not get this and so far, have not wanted for it either.

The only drawback to the SkiTube is that, since it is rigid, it can't be folded up like a regular ski bag, and so takes up quite a bit of space. However, dealing with the storage issue is insignificant, compared to the security, protection, and ease of transport that it offers.

Just did two road trips with this case, carrying 5 pair of Nordic race skis and 5 pair of poles. The longest skis were 207cm, (the wheels are recessed into the bottom of case and do take out some space, so 5 pair of 207's wouldn't fit). Also at that length the case is extended very close to it's maximum so it starts to act like a hinge in the center which is unfortunate when your packing light weight nordic racing equipment that needs more support. The case comes with one clevis pin to connect the two telescoping halves and the alignment of the holes doesn't allow for a second. I stiffened up the center by drilling and adding a second pin. On our last trip I saw several of these cases and mine was the only one that got munched in the airport conveyor belt, two out of four corners were caved in a bit but no broken equipment. The wheels and center handle both worked fine. Bottom line: This case will be great as is for typical alpine equipment. For long classic racing skis, I would buy it again but it would be nice to see it evolve a little by stiffening up the center connection and reinforcing the corners.

This case is sturdy and does exactly what its suppose to do. Easily holds two pairs of skis and poles PLUS additional items. My wife and I can fit two pairs of shoes or boots(not ski boots), packs of hand warmers, and other small objects into the tube. We end up saving a lot of weight in our suitcases by packing the sportstube with various items. the skis are held into place by velcro straps and the skis themselves are kept together by included straps. The sports tube can easily have the length adjusted to fit various size skis. Two small wheels at the bottom help roll the tube around. The case and its contents have survived trips to Switzerland, Austria, and out west to California so for. HOWEVER, with that being said there is one serious issue with the sport tube. Every single trip has resulted in the sport tube not making our destination on time. I am not 100% what the issue is but 3 trips and 3 lost sports tube is no coincidence. Our trip to Switzerland, our sport tube was lost and made it to Zermatt two days later. Our trip to Austria, sports tube arrived two days later. Our trip to Mammoth mountain, the sport tube arrived a day later. An airport counter agent told us this is common with hard sided cases shaped like this one. The cases fall off the conveyor belts or get stuck. I dont know how true that is but something is clearly an issue with air travel and this case. I love this case but I will not use it anymore because of the risk of our skis not making it or being delayed to our destination. FYI, TSA will open and check the contents of this case every time. They did for all 6 legs of our trips.

I bought the Sport Tube Double Ski Case to transport two sets of skis. It works very well with the airlines and it is under their 50 pound limit (with 2 pair of skis and poles) so you don't have to worry about incurring additional charges. I have flown on 4 flights with it and it is showing very little wear. I would suggest the optional handle. This does make it easier to pull on long walks to the parking garage.

Probably the best thing about this over soft case ski bags is the sturdy construction combined with the stable wheels at the back. This allows the unit to be very easily towed along - I just wish that for the money they also included the handle that you have to buy separately. Holds two sets of skis comfortably and with some thought you can pack clothes etc in some of the void spaces.

I purchased this case when I read the United Airlines policy for skis. They took no responsibility for any damage, so I opted for a hard case.

My initial impression of the Series 2 Sportube were great based on how well it handled my girlfriend's skis. The first time I used the case, I transported her skis on their own and was impressed by how easily it loaded and the protection it provided during the trip.

The second time using the tube was far more negative and left me with a sense of buyer's remorse. I transported both my skis and my girlfriend's skis and had some major issues with the size of the tube. I'm on a K2 Kung Fuja which is a fatter ski and my girlfriend is on a Rossignol Temptation 78. Loading both sets of skis into the tube turned out to be a problem because the width toward the end of my skis exceeded half the tube width. Were we both on fat skis, there is absolutely no way we could have loaded this tube for our trip.

My conclusion is that calling this a "double" case is only accurate when talking about older skis and modern designs that have a more limited shape and width. Moreover, there's really not any room for poles after packing the skis.

Would I buy the double again to transport two sets of skis? Absolutely not. Even though it provided my skis with the protection they needed, I am disappointed in this purchase because it doesn't do what it says it can do, i.e. transport two pairs of skis. Were my girlfriend to opt for a wider ski, then we could no longer use this case for its intended purpose. Were I to get a hard case again, I would take a closer look at the Series 3.

Overall, I would discourage people from considering this item unless they are certain they don't want to travel with wide skis or poles.
