5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Spot videos
This is our son's favorite video. He's 2 and a half and has been enjoying it for about a year now and never tires of it. I bought a couple of other Spot videos (not to mention other sesame street, barney, thomas the train, bear in blue house etc.) but this remains his favorite.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stick with the Region 1 versions
This DVD completely changes the audio sound track, to give it North American accents. This of course is a matter of taste. But what really jars is that the very pleasant musical numbers have been reworked from what were "Paul McCartney & Wings" sounding ditties, to jarring kids voices. Ugh!

(REAL NAME)
This is our son's favorite video. He's 2 and a half and has been enjoying it for about a year now and never tires of it. I bought a couple of other Spot videos (not to mention other sesame street, barney, thomas the train, bear in blue house etc.) but this remains his favorite.

After watching some of the others, it is my favorite too - it is sweet without being nauseating (like Barney) and it is quiet and calm and teaches nice simple values. Spot's parents and grandparents are great role models - patient, loving, and empowering, and we could all learn a lesson from them. In one episode Spot makes his own breakfast (to let his parents sleep in) and spills an egg, a loaf of bread and cereal and milk on the floor. When his mother comes in, he says, "Look mom, I made my own breakfast!" and she, unfazed by the mess, says something like "Yes, Spot, I can see that, can you help clean up too?" in a pleasant tone of voice. I'd like to be a parent like that.

After watching this video repeatedly, we bought a couple of the Spot books and were disappointed. The books are almost completely devoid of content. The warmth and interpersonal relationships are missing in comparison to the videos. My son likes them anyway, but only because he is already fond of the characters from the videos.

This tape has 10 short episodes on it, interspersed by real kids doing various tasks. I've seen other reviewers complain of these diversions, but my son likes them and never wants me to turn off the video until the "kids" are done.

Spot on the Farm is nice too. Sweet Dreams, Spot, is not as good, in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Child's Favorite Video, March 11, 2001
By A Customer
This is my 2 year old's favorite video by far. To all the people who gave this video a bad review and said they found it annoying - my first thought is who cares if YOU don't like it - what matters is if your child likes it or not. The songs and lyrics probably aren't annoying to your child. For the last year it has been my daughter's favorite and she will sit quietly and watch the entire video without getting up. It is a great video to put in when you need to get things done around the house. This video gets 5 stars from us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Movie for Young Toddlers!, June 12, 2000
By A Customer
Every child seems to love Spot! This video is exceptional because it is a full length film. My two year old daughter loves Spot. Every day I end up rewinding her Spot videos over and over! With this new addition to the Spot video collection, she can curl up in her bed to watch Spot, and I won't have to get up and constantly rewind the tape for another viewing of the beloved yellow dog! Spot teaches children about simple things in life such as going to the park, and taking turns on the swing and slide. It is absolutely perfect for the young toddler. I even get tickled watching Spot, and I am 39 years old! Spot can do some pretty amazing things. He can even bake a cake! This is one video that every parent of a toddler needs to have in his or her video collection! When I discovered this full length video was being released, I ordered it right away. I could not wait to hear the happy squeal of my daughter when I popped in a new Spot video! Every young toddler needs to be introduced to Spot, and I can't think of a better introduction than "Discover Spot!"

This review is from: Spot - Discover Spot (DVD)
This DVD completely changes the audio sound track, to give it North American accents. This of course is a matter of taste. But what really jars is that the very pleasant musical numbers have been reworked from what were "Paul McCartney & Wings" sounding ditties, to jarring kids voices. Ugh!
Although it's not obvious, all of the Spot shorts on this DVD have been released on region 1 or 4 PAL DVD. Confusingly, the names of the story are changed in this release from the R1 versions as well.
The Amazon review of this DVD does not make it clear that these are free-standing shorts, and that the DVD is not an episodic story.
I also have a major gripe with the authoring of the DVD. On start-up, the DVD drops into a series of advertisements for other Disney videos, which one has to key around with the remote. Then the main menu insists on telling you all about it before you can press "play". Will somebody explain to Disney what every parent knows: toddlers can't wait.
Forgot this DVD. I'm selling my "as new" copy on eBay.

3.0 out of 5 stars What Happened?, July 28, 2000
By

I bought the new Spot video fully expecting to see the same cartoon style as on the Disney Channel shorts. Lo and behold they (Who, I wonder?) changed the entire thing except the animation style. Gone is Spots' voice, laugh, and English accent. The narrator is also changed and sounds suspiciously like the voice in "Maisy". My 3 year old loves it but I am not happy about the changes and wonder how Eric Hill let this happen. Must everything be "Amercanized"?

5.0 out of 5 stars A great video for toddlers, August 5, 2000
By A Customer
My 17-month-old son watched this video for the first time onvacation. He just loved it! So many of Spot's activities are relevant and easy for toddlers to relate to - using an umbrella in the rain, going to the park, making breakfast, cleaning up for bed, taking a bath, etc. For a parent, the voices are calm and the music is pleasant - a nice video to enjoy together.

My 20 month old son loves this video. It is the first video that he actually requests to be put in the VCR at least 2 times a day. I am very pleased the topics and sequence of this video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful video, November 13, 2000
By A Customer
This is my 21 month old daughter's favorite video. She requests this one every day! It's very low key, the music is nice and catchy (I find myself humming it throughout the day), the voices are very clear and graphics are simple. The short stories are very well done. One thing that I love about this video is the way Spot, his parents, and his friends interact. Spot and his parents are very loving and respectful towards each other, and Spot and his friends are all curteous to each other. There is definitely something to be learned from that! I plan on getting more Spot videos. This is THE best children's video we own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spot -Discover Spot DVD, April 30, 2009
This review is from: Spot - Discover Spot (DVD)
My son has enjoyed it very much. Lovable cartoon that teaches easy lessons for preschoolers. In between each cartoon they show children learning what Spot learned as well. I would recommend it for preschool children.

This review is from: Spot - Discover Spot (DVD)
love the wide variety of stories in DVD. Nice way to keep my restless 3 year old quiet for 90 minutes duration - he is always glued for duration of DVD. Nice print and bonus features are also nice to kids to explore if u play it on a computer.
