Here, he's looking for newborn animals on the farm with his father. After several false starts (a mischievous bunny "tweets" behind a bush, the horse hasn't foaled yet), Spot moves in on some piglets and then a few kittens. Telling Mom about it when he gets home is part of the fun, too. Bright colors reveal a hunt that is full of surprises. Young readers will welcome this new Spot book and hope his curiosity doesn't wane. Ages 1-6.

PreSchool-K Puppy Spot visits his tractor-driving dad on the farm. Dad sets out to show Spot some baby animals. Spot runs here and there, looking in the barn, in the stable, behind fences, and under bushes for the baby animals. He finally finds the piglets that Dad wanted to show him. Spot then finds and shows Dad some baby kittens in a laundry basket. The bright colors, simple text, and large print on heavy paper make the book attractive, but the lift-up flaps (barn doors, bushes, and gates) which open to reveal more animals are not practical for a circulating library collection. A good choice for use in a preschool story hour, though. Eldon Younce, Harper Elem . School, Kans.

Make the spot books a part of your toddlers library collection. These books are durable, quick and easy to read and the "lift the flap" aspect makes them perfect for toddlers to join in. In this book, Spot the dog and his dad are looking for baby animals on the farm. This is a theme that children enjoy. The pictures are large and colorful and the story is simple, yet entertaining. My toddler LOVES this book and yours is sure to love it too!

Although `Where's Spot' is my son's absolute favourite book, this did not meet with the same degree of enthusiasm.

That's not to say he doesn't like it, just not as much as `Where's Spot?' ... maybe it's the repetitive text in that one or maybe the novelty value was worn down, but both `Spot goes to the Farm' and `Spot Visits his Grandparents' seem to work as a "side-dish" for him i.e. only good alongside `Where's Spot', though does read both more often than most of his other books.

All in all, I'd say buy this book, but with `Where's Spot?'

Spot the Dog books are a favourite with my girls. They love the simple stories that they can relate to (hiding, baking a cake, playing with others etc) and the lift-the-flaps always bring screams of delight even though we've read them many many times. As they grow I'm sure they'll be one of the books they learn to read with. The words are simple and the font easy to read. Lovely books to cuddle up with your children on your lap. They are also big enough to hold up and read to them as they sit in back seat on car trips.
