I am a true lover of afternoon tea and was thrilled to read this book. Ms. Wexler has definitely done extensive research on the tea rooms of the West. She describes in detail the ambiance, any extras the establishment has to offer, the wonderful array of finger sandwiches, scones, special desserts. Your mouth will water! The author has a knack for setting the scene. Also included, is valuable information such as price, phone #, address, days and times for tea. My only qualm with this book is that there is no type of rating system for how good or authentic each establishment is. She describes all in a very positive light, but many are definitely in the dark. Regardless, it's an excellent reference and a book you'll read over and over again.

This book is very informative and seems to have just about every tea room on the west coast covered. I love picking a tea room to visit with a friend whether near or far and grading it on the top corner the my page. Before driving anywhere its best to call since phone numbers have changed and some tea rooms have closed down. my personal favorites are on pages 101, 192, and page 25. I know you'll enjoy

The book provides a good overview of regional tearooms. I did, however, notice that several of the tearooms that she describes--sadly, old favorites--have closed forever. Always call first!
