1.0 out of 5 stars It has (lots of) problems August 9, 2012
Verified Purchase
Issue 1: I'm currently in day two of using Spotify for Kindle. The biggest problem is that while it's playing, the wireless goes out, and I have to keep waking up the kindle's screen to keep everything playing. I don't have this problem with Pandora, on the same wireless network. Fix that, and it's worth two stars. It should just keep playing, without interruption.
--Edit: so this is what everyone else was talking about. Shut down your kindle, and turn it back on and it works fine. The app gets one star back for that, because it's a workaround and not an actual fix. Software should work, period.

Issue 2: Reading the other reviews, it looks like for non-premium users, the only thing available on Kindle is the radio. As has been said, I have Pandora for that. I use Spotify so I can listen to complete albums, or one artist's entire oeuvre. Fix that, and it's worth the other star. Update: Now that the two day premium trial is up, this is a huge problem. It loses two stars for this. I reiterate: for non-premium members, Spotify on Kindle is identical to Pandora, and Pandora has a friendlier interface. It's not worth $120 per year. I can stream Netflix for less.

Issue 3: Last complaint, so far: the Kindle menu button (bottom, center) is app-sensitive for most other apps--it controls various settings in each app. For Spotify, it does nothing. I have to navigate through several screens in Spotify to change the settings. Throw all that in the same place that it is for all other apps, and it'll make me happy.

Updates as further usage requires.

Until they address Issue 2, I'll be using Pandora instead.

Or so I thought. Now that Pandora has instituted a mobile listening cap (40 hrs per month, are you kidding?!

5.0 out of 5 stars A music streamer that finally won me over. January 11, 2013
Verified Purchase
I am pretty frugal when it comes to subscriptions. Simply put, I love free trials, but NEVER subscribe after they are over. Well, I can't say that any more. Spotify won me over. I have it on my Kindle Fire, my PC, and my HTC phone. The ad free version is really worth it, and the way you can create music playlists for everything is fantastic. Even better is the fact that you can subscribe to other people's playlists. Everything about Spotify just works for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Update The App! December 22, 2013
Verified Purchase
Apple and Android consumers who use tablets have access to unlimited streaming free of charge. And yet, for the Kindle Fire HD this app has not been updated to reflect this change and still only provides the free trial version. Two stars--because it is really a good service-- I feel is deserved until this change is made. 5 stars will be given only after Kindle Fire HD customers have access to the same features as other Android and Apple customers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Perfect After Restart August 5, 2012
By SNewman

Try restarting your Kindle Fire if not opening. Initially the app would not open on my Kindle Fire. I installed the app and attempted to launch several times with only a blank screen popping up that eventually I had to use the Home icon to navigate away from. I restarted my Kindle and it works great.

I can use the app in the background while reading, checking the news, or surfing the web. Very cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome but they only give you a free trial December 8, 2012

If it's free on the computer it should be free as an app too.
My trial ended and I'm not even considering purchasing it, though it was amazing.
Has every song. But I'm a broke college student.

2.0 out of 5 stars Spotify Kindle Fire App October 31, 2012
Verified Purchase
I can only rate this as 2 stars because you have to subscribe to their premium service after the trial period. I listen to Spotify on my PC's for free and don't mind the commercials and if it were the same way on the Kindle I would rate it much higher. If other services can provide free service via advertising so can Spotify!

1.0 out of 5 stars Needs an Update .... August 10, 2012
Verified Purchase
As others have said, until this gets an update, it's not much use. (Just so we're clear, I'm talking about the premium version, not the free radio one. If you only want radio, Pandora is much better.)

Two problems:

- Again, as others have said, it cuts out a lot to the point of being completely unusable. Not sure why, but if it plays 4 or 5 songs in a row without turning off, I feel like I got lucky. I have Pandora and that never happens, so I'm assuming it's something with the app or the Kindle going to sleep or something. (Although on the settings it does say Spotify is supposed to keep it from sleeping, but who knows if that actually works.)

- Not a technical complaint, but it only displays one way: portrait, not landscape, with the audio plug and power button on the bottom. (Nice design Amazon, FYI.)This means there's no way to set it down and have it display normally. I'd prefer to turn it on it's side and use the cover flap to hold it up, but the screen won't rotate so you have to turn your head sideways to read what songs you want to play. Every 10 minutes or so, since that's about how often it cuts out.

Besides that, it works great!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best music app ever December 27, 2012
Verified Purchase
+ Almost exhaustive library
+ Very lean code = lightning fast
+ Simple and smart interface that makes browsing, finding and discovering exceedingly easy
+ 320Kbps quality (oh yeah!)
+ Easy sharing and socializing your listening - if you're into it, or not - if you're not

+ OFFLINE mode - this nifty little feature allows anything (playlists, favorites, whole albums) to be stored and accessible on your device for up to 30 days without connection - comes in VERY handy for transpacific flights and enjoying in 99% of the world that is not covered by wi-fi or xG capable of said 320Kbps streaming
THIS IS WORTH THE $10/month for premium subscription. Don't be cheap. Enjoy your (hi-fi) music and support those who bring it to you.
