The book Spotlight on Cody describes a common problem. What to do for the talent show? Cody asks his parents for advice. They had pretty absurd talents like juggling, yodeling or clog dancing, that were much too embarassing or complicated to do at school. So Cody looks around to find his true talent. In the end, he learns that talent is not something that you can do only once, it is what you like to do and are good at. After finding his true talent, Cody was much more sure of himself. I liked the book.

The story is kind of wierd because it started out talking about a caterpiller named Joe and then the teacher Ms. Harvy told the class that they were going to be in a talent show.Cody thought that it was great that they were going to have a talent show but he had a hard time trying to find a talent. He thought about singing but that wasnt a good idea so he thought about juggling and that didnt work out either so his teacher decided to let him hold the signs for the show after Cody couldnt find a talent. He was the only one without a talent before the teacher let him do that. This was a pretty good book but it could have been a tad bit better. It is better than some of the books I have read thats why I gave it 4 stars.

Betsy Duffey writes many great books, and this installment of her series about Cody Michaels is no exception. Cody is a third grader who panics when his teacher announces a talent show. Everyone else seems to have a skill -- but not him! He asks his friends and his family for help, and has a few comicly disastrous failures, until Cody realizes that he can do something very well!

There is a parallel story concerning a class project, which details a caterpillar emerging from its cocoon just as Cody discovers his talent. Well written and a hit with beginning readers or those ready for chapter books, the story also features nice friendships between male and female characters. Terrific on many levels.

I thought this book was very good but I thought it needed more detail and support . I didn't get what it was saying. It was hard for me to visualize what this story was about. There wasn't enough dialogue.
