I bought this Capitol Records REMASTERED "Spotlight On Dean Martin" Cd only for the sole song PLEASE DON'T TALK ABOUT ME WHEN I'M GONE, which nobody but DEAN MARTIN can sing better than anyone in the whole world. As the Cd played in my car while I drove, I was amazed at how the music SWINGS and rocks along while the maestro and King of Cool mesmerizes the listener as he sings with his one in a zillion DINO voice he will always be remembered for. EVERY TRACK on this Cd is a killer song, including the few dreamy ballads that adorn this SWINGIN' disc from start to finish! DEAN MARTIN remains one of the greatest, most memorable and celebrated male vocalists who ever lived - his brand of ROMANTIC-SEXY-COOL classy pop jazz vocalizing is unequalled.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dean Reigns Supreme!!!, January 6, 1999

This review is from: Spotlight on (Audio CD)
A wonderful collection of the singer's music, including some of Dino's lesser-known gems such as "Mean To Me" and "Sleepy Time Gal" as well as 100-proof classics "Until The Real Thing Comes Along" and "Just In Time."My only "gripe" is that "Canadian Sunset" and "Ain't That A Kick In The Head," two of the master's best recordings, weren't included. Nevertheless, enjoy, preferably with a loved one or one that is soon-to-be!!!

Capitol Records has done a terrific job on their spotlight series of cd's regarding song selection and audio reproduction. These are some of the best songs that Dean has recorded.A number of the tunes are from what is probably his best album,"This Time I'm Swingin'" with the Nelson Riddle orchestra. All of the songs on this cd are very enjoyable and sound great. This is the MUST OWN Dean Martin cd.Buy it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dreamy Dean Songs, January 20, 2000
This review is from: Spotlight on (Audio CD)
The focus on this disc is really songs related with sleeping and dreaming, at least eight of the eighteen tracks are. But there are some definite swingers included too; "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone", "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You", "Someday", "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me", "Just In Time", "Until The Real Thing Comes Along". It seems the spotlight here is dreaming and swinging, the two things that Dino put across very well indeed.

Track choice is always personal feeling. My feeling is that this record is one of Dino's best in regards to track choice. The sound quality is uniformly good. What more can you want?

Spotlight on Dean Martin is a "must-have" album for fans of the legendary Dean Martin. Dean's voice was like listening to a masculine type of silk; he sang with truth in his heart and he gave blood whenever he performed. This CD has several numbers by Dean that I would consider essential to anyone's Dean Martin collection. The quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is good albeit standard for this CD series.

"Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" may be the second track on this album; but it works so well it really should have been the kick-off ballad! Dean delivers this with panache and his excellent diction and timing make a great performance. The musical accompaniment works so well for this tune; Dean really scores a hit with "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone!" There's also a great tune here entitled "The Things We Did Last Summer;" this is a very romantic ballad and the strings enhance the natural beauty of this tune. The background female vocalist adds color to "The Things We Did Last Summer" as well. Listen also for Dean to make good on "Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams;" and when he sings "Imagination" we really get a major highlight of this album! Dean sings this with heart and soul; and the brass works very well for "Imagination."

"You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You" was always one of my very favorite classic pop tunes; and when Dean sings it it's absolutely marvelous! Again, the music that goes along with Dean's vocals complements him perfectly--terrific! "Someday (You'll Want Me To Want You): features Dean practically strutting his way through this song with much self-confidence and that bolsters his rendition of this tune quite a bit. Just one listen proves it! There's another great tune when Dean sings "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me;" this catchy tune boasts a great melody and the lyrics are sublime. "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me" is clearly a major highlight of this CD.

"Dream A Little Dream Of Me" gets the royal treatment from our talented friend Dino; and the flute makes "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" even more special. Dean also gives a powerful rendition of "Just In Time" which of course is another classic pop vocal tune. "(It Will Have To Do) Until The Real Thing Comes Along" is a very sweet tune and Dean outdoes even himself on "Hit The Road To Dreamland." "Hit The Road To Dreamland" is a soothing, romantic type of lullaby I rarely hear and enjoy--great kudos for Dean Martin! The CD also ends strong with Dean Martin singing "Goodnight Sweetheart." "Goodnight Sweetheart" features Dean Martin delivering a tender love song with style and lots of class.

Spotlight On Dean Martin is an excellent installment in this CD series; and they really need to get this one back into print soon. I highly recommend this CD for Dean's fans and this is also a fine starter CD for people just discovering the artistry of Dean Martin. People who like classic pop vocals will also want this album.
