This is a great app for meditation or those just looking for a nice sound for a timer. i use it for meditation, for cooking, and for other activities requiring some kind of time limit. Several different chime offerings, plus a choice of one, two, or three bells, a pre-meditation bell to begin, interval timer bells, and a journal feature as well. Lots of really good features for an incredibly low price. Compared to the $100 timer I received for Christmas a few years ago, this does more and sounds better! I love it and use it daily!

Not a suspicious permission! To those that are calling the permission "Access the list of accounts in the Accounts Service" suspicious, you really should learn what permissions are before posting this cr&p. This permission is needed to get the list of accounts associated with the device so you can connect on Facebook, Google+, or whatever. It is only the list, not access to those services. You still need to tell the service, i.e Google, that you are allowing the program to have access. List, not access.

I love the meditation timer but it is using a ridiculous amount of battery juice. Shortly after I started using it I noticed I was needing to charge my Kindle Fire every night, where as before I started using the app, I could go a week between charges.

I installed the GSam Labs Battery Monitor app to figure out why. The battery app shows that the Insight Timer app is still running in the background all day long, keeping my kindle awake, even though I've exited the app and I'm not using the Kindle. So now that I know what is going on, I manually Force Stop the app at the end of my meditation, but people should not have do that. Apps should be designed to hibernate when not in use.

On Kindle Fire HD 8.9" I heard no popping sound that others mentioned; the pop when the speaker turns on may be device specific, and were it my kindle doing that, I would call Kindle support. The app opened the first time while I had wireless off and operated fine. When I later enabled internet, then the map appeared. The list of people meditating only includes those who have deliberately signed in to the app's network, not just anyone with the program and a facebook app; very non-invasive, and what I wanted to know.

The sound would play along with an audiobook I had going as an experiment, without any 'argument'. I very much like that the volume levels for the individual bells can be individually set separate from the system volume. I do like that the timer continues to run when I go to the Fire home screen or access settings; I do not like that the bells do not sound if I am anywhere other than the running timer screen. Any other sound producing app I have continues to function while doing other things, including turning the Fire 'off' - a very useful feature which prevents accidental button presses and preserves battery life. While one is unlikely to be using other android features while meditating, this peculiarity of this timer limits its other possible usefulness to timing only off-device activities. I also was not impressed with the hide display function as it only 'erased' the timer's display, the Fire's display was still active though dimmer and likely using almost as much battery; also once hide the display was chosen within the running timer there was no way to make it stop auto-dimming the Fire without stopping the timer. I suggest the developer figure out how everyone else manages to allow their sounds to keep playing when a device is 'off' and make that work instead.

I haven't read the other reviews so I don't know if this is happening on all phones, but on my Galaxy Nexus the "screen dimmer" option does not work, which means I cannot use this app. The app also does not work if the screen is manually shut off, which is why I assume they added what was supposed to be a dimmer.

I cannot use the app with the screen on for multiple reasons - I have an Super AMOLED screen, which this app, if the screen is left on, can cause screen burn-in permanently damaging my display, it also drains battery life quickly with the screen on, and I meditate at night and the glare even with my eyes closed is irritating.

My system screen timeout is set to 30 seconds and works fine when this app is not running but this app keeps the screen on at all times and overrides the set timeout. I have the app option checked to dim the screen, which is supposed to shut off the backlight, but as I said, it does not shut it off or dim it even slightly.

I've tried resetting the settings several times, rebooting, using the app both on battery and plugged in, but it never works. I let it go for 15 minutes to see if it had it's own dimmer timer set but it never shut off. I couldn't let it go any longer for fear of damaging my display. Not to mention that the amount of time was already too long for it to kick in and still be useful. If I manually turn off the display, the app stops, so there is simply no way to use it.

Excellent timer. Best one I have ever used. More flexibility that anything I have ever seen. Well worth the $2. I am recommending it to all my meditation friends. I wish there was a desktop version.

Can you silence all other options and leave just the timer on?
In the company description it says " Bells will ring even when the device is locked so you can turn off the screen to save power and eliminate ambient light." So perhaps if you locked the device the only other app that could ring would be one that can override the lock. The other choice... Read More
