Biography

California songwriter Michael Gaither was raised on the central coast and takes the “write what you know” idea to heart, wrapping songs around small-town life and humorous takes on everyday stuff. His love of animals and active involvement with local animal rescue work also find their way into Michael’s songs.

Product Description

Review

I have often thought that the hardest songs to write concern everyday life. Michael Gaither is a singing storyteller in the style of Tom T. Hall and Roger Miller with a heaping dash of Lyle Lovett in the mix. --The Longtown Sound Podcast / WLSO FM Radio

5.0 out of 5 stars Love at first listen! May 3, 2007
Format:Audio CD
A brilliant debut Cd from Michael Gaither. As with most fine artists, the genre of this CD isn't one that can be simply pigeon holed, but is rather a fine blend of folk, bluegrass, alternative country and Americana in its purest sense. Aside from the strong songwriting ability and Slaid Cleaves style vocals, Michael surrounds himself with very strong and multi-talented musicians. While I enjoy all the tracks on this CD, "Spotted Mule" as well as the Tom Petty cover "Running Down A Dream" are just a whole lot of fun to listen to, time and time again. Other songs not to be missed are "Good God Man, How Big a Car Do You Need?", "Highway 17", "High & Lonesome" and of course, "Jack Of All Trades".

This CD became a fast favorite at [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Familiar & Friendly Folk April 17, 2007
Format:Audio CD
Michael takes things everyone can relate to and adds his own spin to them in a style reminiscent of Bob Dylan and Roger Miller. Songs, such as "Takin' Baby Steps," "Jack of All Trades," and "Not Stubborn Not My Mule" seemed familiar to me even the first time I heard them. Every day events, like commuting to work, are captured in song wonderfully. Every word of "Highway 17" rings true ... and "Good God Man How Big a Car Do You Need?" compliments it wonderfully. It's a great collection of songs, worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spotted mule May 21, 2007
Format:Audio CD
I was on line just starting to look for a mule. We are
building a barn and I will be ready to own my first horse soon on our
little one acre of land in Lake County, California. [...]
Well, I love the song, and I want that mule. So I told my husband to at least buy me the CD. It's got great lyrics and wonderful folkie acoustic instrumentation. I used to live in Santa Cruz so I can identify with the Highway 17 song. But the Spotted Mule song is my favorite. Is there a spotted mule fan club?
