For once, this is a book that tells the truth about why nearly all Americans have little choice other than suburban sprawl for affordable housing. But once you understand the many personal costs of living in "blandburbs" - which is the best word yet for describing suburbia - and have the clear guidance on what Healthy Place alternatives to look for and how to evaluate them, then you have gotten your money's worth. Sprawl Kills is so much more than a description of suburban sprawl; it is all about understanding the corrupt forces limiting our housing and transporation choices, and all about what the commonsense solution is for Americans. I really liked the material on the sprawl industry and sprawl politics, and all the facts about the negative physical and mental health effects of a sprawl lifestyle. This book will help me escape sprawl - finally!

Excellent Book! We have recommended this book to friends and given it as a gift.

This guy names names and details how these "sprawl shills" influence small town zoning boards and other manipulated gov't agencies. Besides the warning horn that Dr Hirschorn sounds for all of us to kill sprawl before it kills us, I would be a little concerned about reprisals if there's that much money at stake. A good read though. Entertaining and surprisingly useful. If we don't do something soon we'll be out of land in 25 years-- unless you want to live in Montana.
