Sprawling Wargames, is a wonderful look at Paddy Griffith's large scale war simulation games. It is more of a survey of the games, not a handbook for running them. As an idea generator for anyone interested in running a multi-player wargame or campaign this is a valuable book.
The various chapters include actual game briefings used in some of the most well known simulations including a simulation of Operation Sea Lion, the planned invasion of Britain by Germany in the Second World War. These briefings contain the notes for each player and are a good reading. In addition Mr Griffith goes into detail on his philosophy of large scale wargames and gives details of some of his played by email games.
Overall, anyone interested in running a large game will profit from the ideas in this book.
One star taken away as I wish there was more about the actual running of a game.
