Editorial Reviews

Socratic hits the newstands of punk rock'n'roll in spring 2008 with their Spread The Rumors album featuring the song "Boy In A Magazine," which is the first single. Socratic are an alternative rock band hailing from Cranford/Linden, New Jersey who Kerrang! says they sound like 'Jimmy Eat World overdosed on Meatloaf'. Yummy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quickly grows on you, July 24, 2009
This review is from: Spread the Rumors (Audio CD)
After hearing (arguably) their best known song, the quirky and dark, "I am the Doctor", and after seeing a brief interview of them on a Drive-Thru DVD, I decided to investigate Socratic a little further. By means of youtube I found videos for "Can I Bum a Smoke?" and "Boy in a Magazine". I thought CIBAS was clever, but not exactly deep. BIAM seemed to be a bit deeper, and had a much poppier sound than "I am the Doctor". Up until recently that was my experience with Socratic; which wasn't much, but certainly left me curios.

I recently purchased Spread the Rumors, and I am so glad I did. "WOW" is all I can really say. The songs are beautifully written with humor and bittersweet emotion in nearly every song. I make sure to listen to a new album 100% of the way through on the first listen, and with this, I was legitimately upset when I hit the end. This may have something to do with the final two tracks being my personal favorite, but the album as a whole is great. top tracks, in my opinion, would be "Havent Seen You In Years", "Janis Joplin Hands", "Spread the Rumors", "Don't Say", "Diamond In a World of Coal", and "Another Headache". Any of these

On a side note, this album mixes in VERY well with fellow DTR artists House of Fools, Ace Enders, and Steel Train, all of who have amazing albums wroth checking out as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD!, May 8, 2008
This review is from: Spread the Rumors (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of Socratic for about 3 or 4 years now since "Funeral Masses." They are a great band both to see live and to talk to. They are great guys. I have to say that I am truly impressed with their work on this album. I really liked that last album as well but I think the vocals and the overall sound have improved tremendously. Give them a chance! This CD is so worth the money.
