Live Recording,
This review is from: Spread Your Wings & Fly: Filmore East May 30 1971 (Audio CD)
WOW this really is a wonderful CD. Yes the sound is not perfect. I listen to a lot of music on good headphones and while again not perfect this CD is not bad at all.
Now to the performance. Laura Nero is one of those late 60's early 70's artists that many might not know of. Her style was more New York City folk than anything and that was not the most popular at the time. I picked up my first Album (vinyl not cd) of hers back in the day. It was wonderful. Then more LPs to put on the turntable. Then many years passed. And as I looked over my LPs I thought of those that I might want to replace with CDs. Laura Nero made that cut and when I put on the first of many CDs of hers... I was transported back but also sat back and wondered how we missed so much of the music that she produced back in those days. Was looking through some used CDs... and found this CD. I knew she had recorded at the Fillmore East back in the day but never saw any of the material that came from the Fillmore East dates. WOW was this a great find. The music is recorded in a very up front and personal style...so you are really right there in the Fillmore. She performed a number of her current (1970's) that night with just her and a piano. Highly recommended. Again remember that the recording is not perfect and we all need to thank the sound people for the restoration. Even on headphones you will like this one.... late at night when you want to relax.
