I couldn't wait to give this boat to my 16 months old, because this boat looked so nice and fun to play with. Love the way it's made and that it is from recycled materials. Unfortunately because the bottom part is made of two different pieces (the hull in blue and the "floor boards" in brown) it has a gap in between that allowes water to seep in very quickly. If you gently place it on the water surface it is ok, but if you have an excited little guy push it into the water even a little bit, it takes on water very quickly and sinks to the bottom. First thing my son does when he gets in the tup is push down on it, and once it sinks he is not interested in the boat anymore. Maybe it is due to his age, perhaps he will be able to play with it better when he gets older, but I still think that for a boat made for small children it really shouldn't sink, especially not at that price! Another concern then is that mold can build up in between the layers which usually is the ultimate reason for me not to buy certain bath toys. Perhaps I will try to smear caulking into the space between layers to seal them together. Had I known this beforehand I wouldn't have purchased this product.

Great toy- boat actually floats. Lots of bath time fun as well as fun outdoors or other play as flat hull allows for non-water play as well.

I thought this boat would be great. I loved the materials it was made out of, and the theme of the toy itself. Unfortunately, the little boat and dolphins sank almost as soon as they entered the water, and the big boat followed soon after. The big boat also tore very easily after a couple of play sessions (my son was nine months old at the time, so I don't think he was being too rough with the it). Maybe it was just our model, but it was definitely not worth the $20 spent on it.

We have purchased many toys from Sprig including the Recycle Truck, Dump Truck, Front End Loader, Excavator, Discover Rig, Dino Adventure Rig, Scuba Search, and Dolphin Explorer Boat.
We have been happy with everything except the Dolphin Explorer Boat set. The Explorer Boat piece fills with water and sinks. When this fills up with water, you have to tip it to the side and let it drain out. There is no way to open it to really clean it out, so you end up with dirty bath water inside the toy. We were worried that mold could form inside the toy and we did not feel that this was very sanitary. When I called the company's customer support line, I was told that this is normal, they suggested putting it in the dishwasher or give the toy a bleach bath if I wanted to clean/sanitize it. The customer service representative told me that I could return it to the within 30 days for reimbursement as it has a 30 day warranty. Unfortunately, we purchased the toy months ago for our son and only recently gave it to him. I have tried to contact customer service again to see if they could give me a credit towards something else, but I have not heard back from them yet.

I thought this was a very cute toy and what little boy does not like a boat but he becomes frustrated because the boat sinks so easily. He prefers his other boats over it because this one does not work. Maybe I just got a bad one because generally green toys are very good quality.

I love these toys but this is one that isn't really up to par. It's nice and heavy duty but water seeps into the hull of the boat so easily that it sinks like a stone. We are constantly picking it up from the bottom of the tub and letting it drain so it will float again. My son loves it but I really wish it would float better... because aren't boats supposed to float better than they sink?

We use this as a bath toy and my toddlers like it okay, but can't interact with the boat much b/c it fills with water very quickly and sinks to the bottom of the tub. It's too bad the boat's brown deck and blue bottom weren't made to fit together tightly. Like all Sprig toys, the set is very handsome and durable.

Boat doesn't float. Even with minimal playtime (my son is mostly disinterested in the toy) all the ladders and white railing have come off already. We're very disappointed- especially since another Sprig toy is one of his all-time favorites.

Like many other reviewers, I loved this toy on land. It's great quality, adorable, greener than other toys, and most importantly my son loved it (20 mths). However, it is not sealed and sinks quickly. He still played with it in the bath, but tired of having to constantly dump the water out to make it float. We are going to try to caulk it to solve the problem. Too bad.

Not a Tub Toy!,

The design aesthetic of the Sprig toys is really charming, but overall their performance is lacking. The Dolphin Adventure boat does float, but it is too unstable to really work as a tub toy, and quickly fills with water and capsizes as soon as a little water gets in the hull. The ladder is fastened to the boat with very weak and spindly attachments, and my 1 year old easily pulled it off, and then got very frustrated when he couldn't put it back. You would think the one thing that would float in this set would be the life preserver - but it sinks like a rock. It is also a choking hazard. My boy enjoys the boat, but we no longer try to use it in actual water, and I am considering just chucking the ladder and preserver into the recycling. I do, however, love that a corporate giant is attempting to make a somewhat "green" toy - I'm just not sure that it has built-to-last sustainability factored in.
