I still have my original copy of Spring Blossom, signed by the author, and I'm very happy to see this Homespun Romance reissued in digital format so others can once again enjoy a heartwarming romance that has pretty much been hidden away, like a little treasure, for many years *s*

Historical romances used to be my thing. I read a ton of them. I couldn't get enough of them, but then they changed or maybe I did and I just lost my love for them.
Spring Blossom reminded me of why I loved and read so many!
If you want to read a story about people changing, rediscovering themselves and love...about relationships and not just sex...this is the book for you.

Romance is not my usual genre but I'm glad I picked up Spring Blossom for my kindle. Jill Metcalf knows how to write from the heart to the heart. She invited me into a family of four girls being raised by their father. It is a simpler time. Maggie at age fifteen falls deep into new love with Hunter who comes to the family to purchase a horse. He knows she is much too young but is captivated by this spirited young lady. He keeps his promise to return but finds Maggie has been touched by trauma that has left her cold and bitter. Only a tender loving man such as Hunter could hope to pull her back to the trust that once defined her. I plan to read more of Jill's historical romances.

I read FAMILY REUNION, the sequel, over a year ago and was impressed with Ms. Metcalf's writing. There were many references to characters in SPRING BLOSSOM so I added this title to my list of books that I wanted to find. And, sadly to say, after reading this romance I was disappointed.

We first meet Maggie when she is 15 and Hunter is 27. He is impressed with Maggie's beauty and refreshing take on life. He returns 3 years later only to find that she is both caustic and embittered. He marries her against her wishes believing he can 'heal' her over time.

It takes place in the nineteenth century when age between husband and wife made little difference. I guess I just couldn't get over why Hunter loved her. There was so little chemistry between the two for most of the story. There was very little mention of what actually happened to Maggie and Hunter was too forgiving at times. I understood Maggie's reason for hurting but I still didn't like her. I am now happy I didn't find this book first or I would have never read anything else by this author.
