Book Description

An all-expenses paid trip to Cancun for spring break? It wasn't exactly a hard sell for Leigh, Eva, Gia and Joy, frenemies from Arizona Southern University. But all is not well in the land of silver or lead. Soon after arriving, Leigh and the girls stumble upon some cartel carnage—a bloodbath of debauchery that makes even their wildest desert party seem tame.

Instead of doing the proper thing, like contacting the authorities, the girls venture down the rabbit hole in this tale of sex, lies, and bloodshed. Everything changes when Leigh makes the acquaintance of Guero, a cartel kingpin who is none too pleased with her newfound lust for blood money.

These vengeful coeds aren’t on campus anymore, and after Guero lets them know just how serious he is, they make a run for the border no one will ever forget.

About the Author

LC Kanon is a native of Chicago, Illinois and has lived and worked in various locations across the country. A first-time author, LC was driven to write after reading far too many thrillers with damsels in distress. Compelled to meld the drama of chick lit with action and suspense, LC began writing and never stopped. Her first book, "Spring Break," mixes coeds and cartels in a bloody romp through Mexico. When she's not writing, LC enjoys watching kung fu, taking long drives, and walking along sandy beaches.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beach read February 24, 2013
Format:Paperback
This book was entertaining, but very unrealistic. The four girls on spring break were horrible portrayals of young coeds. I wouold only recommend this book to college women looking for a mindless read.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Must Be a Joke February 25, 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was asked to review this book, fairly and honestly, by the publisher. I never would have selected the book because the cover is so offputting.

I can't help but think that this book is somehow a joke or an experiment of sorts. Nobody could write this badly and get it published by a paying publisher. I researched LC Kanon extensively and there are no photos of her or him anywhere. The blog this person authors contains photos only. I'm wondering if the publisher wanted to see if people read poorly written books and rated them high just because they were asked to review them.

The story takes four "mean girls" to Mexico where they get involved with the drug cartels. There are no characters to like or care about. The mean girls basically have no motivation for anything they do. One of them "Leigh" starts killing people just like she was a hitman. But nothing is written about her background that would motivate her to act like that.

Throughout the book, the sentences are very poorly constructed, so you have to read them two or three times to figure out what the author meant to say. Nobody in the book ever has any feelings either. No happiness, anger, sadness or anything else that would cause them to do what they do. Plot threads are dropped suddenly for no reason.

I apologize to LC Kanon if he or she is a real person. But you need more than a plot to create a book worthy of reading. I would suggest a basic fiction writing class.

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Grindhouse-like book April 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I was approached on Goodreads and asked to review this book in return for a free copy of the e-book. This starts out as the story of four vapid seeming frenemies on spring break from college at a resort in Mexico. I was not impressed - i'm not a fan of Gossip Girl. The writing, the dialogue, was all poor and seemed rather ridiculous. Did a grown up even write this? I just started laughing, and then I realized that might be the point. In the blink of an eye, it switches over to a story about drug running, and escaping a cartel. Only, kind of not really. It's not a spoiler to say that these girls, before only concerned with the perfect hair and clothes and making sure their skirts are hiked up enough, become cold blooded killers. Not only that, they do it WHILE still being concerned with all those things. They can kill someone, then complain about their hair, or fix their eyeliner. The whole thing reminded me of a Grindhouse movie. We have gorgeous women in tiny, skimpy clothes, drinking a lot, and then randomly offing someone with a gun or a MACHETE! They could give the Mad Men cast a run for their money with all the smoking and drinking that goes on! It was hilarious, violent and gory and I enjoyed myself! I'd love to see this made into a movie, with girls teetering on too-high heels and too many shots, as they take out yet another cartel member. In the end, I enjoyed it. Fast-paced and just weird. If you're looking for a teen sort of vacation book, or don't like violence, skip it. But if you like campy action things starring hot girls (even unlikable ones) and bad dialogue, go for it.
