Book Description

February 1998
Joy Krause shares poignant and inspirational stories and simple truths learned from many years in the housecleaning business. PUBCOMMENT: Joy's stories about people she met during her years as a cleaning lady are a mixture of humor, sadness and bittersweet reflections on human nature. Theystrike a chord within all of us. Many people relate to the struggles, joys and tears.

AUTHCOMMENT: When I first became a cleaning lady, I thought it was the worst job on earth. However as time went on, I learned that happiness and abundance can be found right where we are at that moment.

INTRODUCTION: During my 20-year career, I've cleaned for priests, war heroes, taxidermists, rich people who went broke and broke people who became rich. I've cleaned funeral homes, lighthouses, haunted houses and everything in between and under a roof. I've been a psychologist, spy, scapegoat and confidante. Because dirt never goes away for long, my business grew until it became one of the largest of its kind in the Northeast.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A tip of the mop to Joy Krause! This book proves that she is one ofthe lucky people who has been blessed with the knowledge of the beauty of truly serving others." -- Ann B. Davis, aka 'Alice' of the Brady Bunch

My life had become an endless stream of errands and responsibilities, with little or no time for me. I complained a lot until I cleaned a little ranch house in the suburbs. That's when I learned to do more hugging and less tugging with my children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, I could hardly put it down., May 3, 1999
This review is from: Spring Cleaning for the Soul (Paperback)
This is one of the few books I tried to read while driving. Maybe not driving, but at the stop lights. I opened the book at noon and could not stop reading until I finished it. The chapter on turning 45 almost had me hauled off by the men in white coats. I have not laughed that hard in years. It is rare that a book gives a real picture of the foibles, fears and fun that believers experience. I am looking forward to Krause's next book. Joy may be her first name, but it is also what you get when you read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Spring Cleaning For The Soul", April 17, 2005

This is a wonderful book by an entertaining writer. Joy Krause takes the reader on a humorous, heartfelt trip of determination, self-discovery, & survival. You'll find yourself reading it more than once. There's so much to relate to in this fabulous book. I've given copies to close friends & relatives & everyone loved it! It's highly recommended & it's not surprising that it was featured on "Oprah". There was also a (rare) follow-up that is worth searching for. It's called "Spring Cleaning 101 (101 Hilarious & Off-the-Wall Cleaning Tips & Household Hints)". Buy these books! You'll love them & won't be able to put them down!

5.0 out of 5 stars It will make you laugh and cry at the same time, July 29, 1998

The last thing anyone wants to do is clean. Joy Krause took the pain out of it. She showed the light side of working in the cleaning business. All was not peaches and cream for her and the kids, but through hard work and determination, she was able to see down her yellow brick road. She turned her cleaning business from a dust rag to riches. I couldn't put it down until I finished it.
