Winn Gardner is engaged to be married to Paul. At a wedding for a close friend, Winn meets Joseph Duggan, and it's with flying sparks! The two are immediately attracted to each other, but Winn loves Paul and is feeling guilty because of the way she feels about Joeseph. Paul has everything planned for their life together as husband and wife, buying her a nice house and giving her what any woman would want. But something is lacking, and it takes Joseph to help Winn figure that out.

The story develops as both Winn and Joe become closer, and she is torn between her fiance who has done nothing wrong (or so she thinks), and Joe, who is everything she's wanted in a man!

The book was a fast read for me. I had been a fan of Lavyrle Spencer years ago and was lucky to find this book during a vacation trip at the airport! I'm glad i picked it up. I missed reading a good romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Romance, April 5, 2000
By

I liked the setting between the two main characters in this book. It is the shortest of the many Lavryle novels i have read but it still has the same endearing quality of all her sassy and sexy stories. One thing I liked was the way both characters were both into being physically fit and how it was known how bold and strong the female lead is in this story. She doesnt have to be a bed of roses to be sexy and to make him happy. I have read almost all of Lavyrle's books and this was a nice addition to the rest. You'll enjoy this book!

I really loved this book. I couldn t put it down and had to stay awake till four in the morning until I finished it. I really liked both Winn and Joseph very much. I like characters who are honest and tell their feelings. You can also feel the connection between the two of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN, December 4, 1999

Mrs. Spencer writes very smoothly, poetic and makes you feel like you are a character in the book. I started this book on Thanksgiving weekend and could not put it down. It was a tear jerker, heart pounder type novel that I would invite everyone to read. Mrs. Spencer's book titled "Then Came Heaven" was also a type of romance book that I could not put down. "Spring Fancy" should be read at night, preferably with a book light so that the full effect from her descriptions of Winn and Joseph are mesmerized in your brain before you go to sleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Sweet Book, September 6, 1998
By A Customer
"Spring Fancy" is a very sweet book. Winn is resigned to marrying Paul despite her growing feelings for Joseph. Paul is closer to his computer, Rita, than to his future wife. Winn finally gets to the breaking point and takes an action that surprises everyone.

The moral of the story is that you don't get married to the wrong person just because all of the invitations have already been sent out and more importantly, you don't get married to please someone else.

4.0 out of 5 stars She's engaged to the wrong Mr. Right!, July 9, 2003
By
janlouise (Ruston, LA United States) - See all my reviews
Have you ever met someone and thought "what if we had met sooner?" Well... this is one of those stories. Winn Gardner is engaged to be married in 3 short months and is the maid-of-honor for her best friend's wedding. At the dress rehearsal she meets Joseph Duggan, the best man. Though both are best friends to the bride and groom they have never met each other- and are attracted the minute they lay eyes on each other. She loves her fiance, Paul, so why is Joseph confusing her mind? Joseph is wondering where Winn has been all of his life and sets out to cause Winn to question whether Paul is the one for her. Circumstances force Winn and Joseph to spend time together. Winn sees that Paul and Joseph are complete opposites. So how can one fall in love with 2 such opposite men? Paul is good-looking, with everything about him in place from his clothes, his work, to his life and future. Joseph is nothin' special to look at but has a wonderful personality, loves family and friends, and a real romantic. The more time Winn spends with Joseph she realizes he is everything she wants in a man and Paul is everything her mom wants her to have in a man. So which one is Mr. Right? And how can she disappoint her mom and hurt Paul when he has done nothing wrong? A sweet and WONDERFUL story that will keep you turning pages til the last one!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a really "feel good" kind of story., February 12, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Spring Fancy (Audio Cassette)
A great book to take to bed--guaranteed to erase the cares of the day! The destination's no surprise, but what fun it is getting there... Spencer's characters have charm, attractiveness and humor combined with old-fashioned values. The lovemaking scenes in this novel are among the most graphic I've ever read but are never in poor taste. Spencer's ability to describe in minute but never boring detail truly places the reader in the setting. At the end of this story, I felt as if I had been with friends on a very enjoyable trip

4.0 out of 5 stars A Love Triangle, February 15, 2007
Winnifred Gardner has a choice to make; does she stay with her computer nerd fiance Paul, or does she leave him for Joseph Duggan, a dashing man she met at her best friend's wedding?

Winnifred and Joseph are Maid of Honor and Best Man at their friends' wedding. Despite both of them knowing the bride and groom, Joseph and Winn had never met before. However, the sparks fly at the wedding rehersal. Winn finds herself drawn immediately to Joseph. He's the complete opposite of her fiance. Joseph likes to dance, jog, play racketball, and fix old cars while Paul spends hours staring at his computer (named Rita) instead of spending time with Winn.

Joseph enters Winn's life like a breath of fresh air. She feels alive again like she's never felt with Paul. There's only one problem; Winn and Paul's wedding is only three months away. Winn can't back out now; or can she? Winn is pulled in two directions as to what to do. Does she stay with Paul and have a life of financial security but little else, or does she drop Paul and allow her relationship with Joseph to grow? Joseph cannot offer the financial commitment, but he offers so much more.

Winn continues to make excuses for not seeing Joseph, but she cannot deny the feelings in her heart. Will Paul win out, or will Winn follow her heart and choose Joseph?

I read this book as a requirement for a Master's degree course. I've never read a romance novel before this one, but I found it to be quite good. The storyline is pretty standard; girl is engaged to boy, girl falls in love with another boy. But Spencer does a good job of describing each of the characters' feelings and the story develops very quickly. The character development is very good as well. From Paul, the computer nerd who seems to be more interested in his work than his fiance to Joseph, the simple but hard-working man and finally to Winn, who must choose between these two men, the characters really seem to come to life.

I'm not a big fan of the romance genre, but I did enjoy this book. I found myself developing a relationship with the characters, and I was eager to see who would end up with Winn. I don't know if I'll ever read another romance novel, but if I do, I hope its as good as this one is.

4.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining springtime novel, May 4, 2004
A very entertaining novel, although parts of it were difficult for me to fathom, particularly the reason why Winn continues to stay with Paul, even after beginning her romance with Joseph. However, this scenario makes for a wonderfully angst-filled romance, for those readers who enjoy tortured lovers! Joseph is endearing and a classical "good man" and is therefore easy to fall in love with. Winn is slightly more difficult to support, in my mind, but still inspires sympathy. Recommended for Spencer fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Romance!, June 9, 2003

What an intriguing story line! The wedding is planned and everything is going well but the groom is not the "one" after-all as the engaged girl meets a more perfect man for her. A delightful romance that ends well, and a book that holds interest from page one.
