Book Description

3 and upBrambly Hedge

Wilfred woke early one morning. It was his birthday! He got lots of lovely presents, but the best one was a surprise.

He knew he was going on a picnic, but what he didn't know was that Mr. Apple had organized a secret celebration, and that all the mice of Brambly Hedge were invited.

Wilfred was put in charge of carrying the picnic hamper. It was enormous. He grew tired as he lurched and bumped his way along the grassy track. What was it Mrs. Apple had said was in the hamper? Knives? Sandwiches? They certainly were very heavy!

Once at the picnic spot, Wilfred was finally allowed to open the hamper. And there he found the best surprise of all.

About the Author

Jill Barklem was born in Epping and led a quiet childhood enjoying being close to nature. On leaving school, she studied illustration at St Martin's in London. The inspiration for Brambly Hedge appeared during Jill's daily train journey between Epping and London: shutting herself off from the outside world, she became obsessed with the way of life of a band of hedgerow mice, later to be developed as the world of Brambly Hedge. Jill still lives in Epping, Essex. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars So Cute!, May 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Spring Story (Brambly Hedge) (Hardcover)
This is an adorable story with precious pictures. It relates the adventures of a young mouse, Wilfred, who is celebrating his birthday. His fellow mice plan a pleasant surprise for him, but he'll have to work to get it. I recieved this book as a two-year old, and I am so glad my mother preserved it for me. This is a great book for bedtime, or any time. Young children and adults alike will enjoy the delicate pictures and accompanying text. You will truly enjoy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute story, even cuter illustrations, March 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It's a lovely story of the cute woodmice that live in the English countryside. But what really got me to purchase this book, and the other Brambly Hedge books and fine china pieces produced by Royal Doulton is the illustration. Every picture is so cute!

The spring story is about the woodmice community planning a surprise birthday party for Wilfred, an energetic boy woodmouse. This book would make a good birthday gift for young child.
