4.0 out of 5 stars The entire year is complete!, May 11, 2008

This review is from: Spring (MP3 Download)
The Fall and Winter EPs were absolutely phenomenal. Spring was good but probably my least favorite. Summer is outstanding, bringing the 4 EPs full circle, satisfying my ears, my soul and my spirit.

Spring starts out with a cute little number called "March (A Prelude to Spring)" which sounds nothing like any other song Jon or Switchfoot has ever put out. Then the familiar acoustic stuff comes with "Love Isn't Made" and "In My Arms", a couple of good, not great, songs.

The album climaxes with "Baptize My Mind" and the simple but beautiful "Your Love Is Strong" - a modern version of the Lord's Prayer. Finally, Jon does a different version of "Revenge" which was previously made available to people who purchased Switchfoot's Oh! Gravity.

Overall I would say this is the weakest of Foreman's solo efforts, but that still doesn't make it a bad album by any means.

Summer adds to Foreman's legend. It goes places musically that Foreman has not gone before, and makes some strong spiritual statements, even if we don't want to hear them.

"Resurrect Me" sounds musically like a cross between "Dirty Second Hands" and "Amateur Lovers" (from Switchfoot's Oh! Gravity.), while lyrically reminding me of "Burn Out Bright" with its "live strong now" message. It is by far the "hardest" of Foreman's songs on any of the EPs. Nice.

"Instead of a Show" smacks a lot of Christians in the face... questioning our worship and how genuine it is. Foreman challenges us to ACT on our faith. Beautiful but painful.

"House of God Forever" is a brilliant take on Psalm 23 (The Lord is my shepherd)... and a sweet duet. My favorite off the new one. "Again" has a slight oriental flavor to it, and ends off the EP, and the year, brilliantly.

I am so thankful that Jon Foreman was inspired to release these EPs, and will miss getting 6 new, solid songs every few months from (in my estimation) one of the most talented songwriters of our generation. Get Spring and Summer, and if you haven't already done so, Fall and Winter, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why I keep listening...., March 1, 2009
This review is from: Spring and Summer (Audio CD)
I love Jon Foreman in Switchfoot so I figured I would love him singly. I did. This album is like listening to Paul Simon who actually has something worth singing about; not just a good voice. Jon cuts out all the pretense and gets right to the core of what he sees, hears, and perceives about life, people, and the God he loves. I love his conviction, sarcasm, and wit. He is a very passionate singer who refreshes the heart.

This is a great cd! I never get tired of listening to it the words are meaningful and will give you a sense of purpose and help you to see the wonder of love and the beauty in life. The music is simple and uncomplicated even though there are a lot of different instruments, they blend well to create a beautiful masterpiece.

I've been a fan of Switchfoot for awhile. But Jon Foreman's series of ep's (starting with Fall and Winter last year) takes a different direction from the band, and not necessarily the wrong one. In Spring/Summer, he combines diverse instrumentation, stirring lyrics, and just flat out good sound to create an enjoyable experience. Songs such as A Mirror is Harder to Hold (Summer) and Baptize My Mind (Spring) seem to truly reflect the lighter feel of the seasons. It's hard to find much truly wrong with this set, though some may find a few tracks boring. All in all, an excellent release from Foreman, and something that anyone from a veteran listener of his music to a brand new fan can find something to like about.

Jon Foreman's new project is awesome! If you liked Fall & Winter, you'll love Spring & Summer even more. I guarantee it!

If you're not familiar with his stuff, it's easy going, enjoyable to listen to, peaceful, melodious, and acoustically driven. This is the music he was born to sing.

Jon Foreman has truly created a masterpiece with his four seasons albums. This is Switchfoot stripped down to it's core and concentrated into it's purest form. Lyrics that flow beautifully, but still cut to the core. Jon masters the accoustic guitar to perfectly accompany the tone of each song. Finally, Jon's own voice can express raw feeling as good as anyone else singing today.

Switchfoot has been one of my top favorite bands for a long time. When the lead singer and songwriter for the band went solo with four ep albums I had to have them. He did not disappoint. His work is filled with deep thought and emotion. You can tell that his heart is tied to everything he does. His style and sound is unique. Every song is worth a listen.

The Spring and Summer EPs include some of the best songs that Jon Foreman has ever written. I would highly recommend buying the Fall and Winter EPs to complete the set. These EPs are not just "acoustic Switchfoot", but if you enjoy Switchfoot you should enjoy these EPs as well. Both the music and the lyrics are well-written, creative and compelling.

Love Jon. Just love him. His music reflects his devotion and love of God. There is nothing reflecting of Jon, just his love for God. Great collection of songs.

The lead singer from Switchfoot has gone solo and it is a wonderful thing. I enjoy switchfoot but jon's solo creations resonate with me even more. Soulful, deep melodies, challenging and inspiring lyrics. I give it 5 stars.
