3.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Book, October 19, 2000

I liked this book because the characters talk like it was real life people. It's a fast paced book. The setting is at alot of different places; the story moves around. This book explaines special terms so that you would enjoy it even though it's about baseball. I would reccommend that you read it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A message not often seen in juvenile sports fiction, more experience is needed, December 15, 2010
Dave "DT" Green, Glen "Scrapper" Mitchell and Roberto "Magic" Ramirez are three superb baseball players from Rosemont. DT is an outfielder, Scrapper plays second base and Magic pitches. Each has been doing very well in the lower minor leagues and is now with their respective teams in spring training. Their previous success continues in the early exhibition season, yet it does not take long before they experience difficulties as the major leagues is as much about mental preparation as it is their physical tools. When they encounter difficulties for the first time after great success in their early games, each of them struggles to cope and demonstrates that they are not yet ready for prime time.
Sports books tend to end with the "big game at the end" where the title character scores the winning touchdown, run, goal or whatever term is used to describe the point totals of the game. This one is not in that group, while the title characters succeed, they also fail in a much more realistic manner. They learn that talent is only one part of achieving success; there is also attitude and preparation. In the old days they called it seasoning, now it can be called maturity, a minimum level of experience that makes the difference between being successful over the long term or only for a short time. That is an excellent message, one seen all too infrequently in the modern world.
